I'm just hoping that the WAFC doesn't decide to make it a final four if there are any more disruptions to the season.

Not wishing to be an alarmist, mikeh, but an East Perth official told me yesterday that the WAFC/WAFL plans to discuss this very issue this week.
Not that it will affect East Perth, but given the distinct split between the top five and the bottom five, the fifth-placed team is likely to finish with an 11-7 win loss record.
It would be cruel to be dumped out of the finals in such a fashion.

Yes I heard some whispers yesterday as well. I am wondering what the motivation is for this. Is is the pandemic or is it because of the gulf between the top half of the ladder and the bottom half which now stands at 4 games? A top 4 would make for a more competitive edge to games between now and the end of the season but to announce this now at this stage of the season would completely destroy the integrity and credibility of the competition. If Swans were to finish at 11-7 and still miss out on finals there would be some very unhappy campers down Bassendean way. Lets hope common sense prevails and they go with the plan to extend the season into October

Surely they can’t change the finals structure as the season is nearly over??  Although if it’s the easy way…
I raised that possibility a couple of weeks ago.  It is a damning indictment on the WAFC that this is even being considered.

Just imagine if the AFL decided at this stage of the season that there would be a final 6 rather than a final 8?

I don't know what you blokes are getting your knickers in a twist about. Was reported on the news the other night they will not change the top 5 and stick with the existing finals format.
Get on your bike.

How many weeks are required to complete a final 5 series?

The reason I'm getting my knickers in a twist DD is that I don't trust the WAFC and their motives. They will bend over and do anything that their masters ( the AFL) want them to do. If the AFL have ordered them to finish the season prior to their Grand final they will bend over without a 2nd thought. The finals series with a top 5 would take 4 weeks whereas with a top 4 that is cut back to 3 weeks.
There is a bit of self interest there too in that if this change is made, chances are that Swans will probably be the team that misses out.

Final 5 finals format fits into a 4 week timeframe, Elim and Qual finals week 1, 1st n 2nd semi's week 2, prelim week3 and the GF week 4.

Would be a disgrace if they changed to a final 4, Swans have earned the right to play finals. On their day they can beat anyone as they proved v Subi.

I heard today that it will be a final 5 and the GF will probably be played a week after the AFL GF and a good chance it'll be a twilight game at Optus. It could all change with another lockdown by McGoo but that's the plan currently I believe.

Pretty much what I heard BC. although I heard it will be two weeks after the AFL GF, and yes a twilight game hopefully on a Saturday as I don't think a late start would work on a Sunday.

This could all go up in puff of smoke depending on McClown power trips.

As long as we keep the interstate hard borders, we should be ok.
