DD wrote: Well here we go and here is the problem. Mark Duffield has written in todays West that Dr Neale Fong and Dixie Marshall have emerged as prime candidates to be part of the new WA Football Commission.

So we are talking about a bloke that was previously on the commission from 2009 to 2010 and was chairman from 2002 to 2010, not that long ago and has already come out and said "He was disappointed in Alexander’s comments claiming they reflected badly on a lot of commissioners who had volunteered their time."

I will remind everyone including those who put this guy's name up in lights of the CCC report findings when he was WA Director of Health.

www.ccc.wa.gov.au/sites/default/files/Re...nt%20of%20Health.pdf

Here is an excerpt from the findings:

"The major issue of concern resulting from the investigation of Dr Fong and his
relationship with Mr Burke is in regard to Dr Fong’s representation to his
Minister of his relationship and email correspondence with Mr Burke. In the
Commission’s assessment Dr Fong, in his capacity as Director General of the
DOH, made misrepresentations to his Minister, DOH staff and the media
culminating in him maintaining untruthfully in his evidence to the Commission
3
that he had no recollection of any of the 33 email communications between
him and Mr Burke identified above.
Dr Fong consistently maintained that there was no personal or professional
business relationship between himself and Mr Burke, and that there were no
emails.
Witnesses have described Dr Fong as a remarkably astute person with an
immense capacity to absorb information, who has excellent recall and can
produce facts and figures as required. The Commission accepts that to be so."

And Dixie Marshall has friends in high places, these people are Perth "A" listers with a lot of powerful contacts. For me it would bring no more transparency and accountability and these people are used to handling huge budgets.

Ron Alexander is the man for me, I think he would be impartial and has already demonstrated he is not afraid to speak the truth and tread on a few toes and bruise a few ego's, the other bloke mentioned above has already defended the commission that is under fire.

I also think Colin Barnett with his WAFL background and as an economist would be very good but there maybe some conflicts of interest there. He has had a lot to say lately and I wouldn't rule out a return to politics.

So more of the same put forward- Western Suburbs, beach/river dwelling upper class folk at the WAFC!

Any chance of actually getting someone on board from the football heartland in the Eastern Suburbs (Midland, Morley, Armadale, Gosnells etc) who might paint a different picture to the challenges faced by players & clubs in those areas rather than the same ol generational PSA attending private school tie lot who believe everything is hunky dory out in (Golden Triangle) suburbia?!?!?!?!

well it has to be said that Fong will have trouble with that history but is currently involved with the WAFL so that may count a bit
but as for the other two I'd have my doubts and a few of them

more I think about it Ron might sound good or has he declared his hand too much?

Isn't Marshall currently a big wig in advertising? Not sure of her Wafl involvement or previous interest in the WA footy scene. Fong was a previous board member or something on the commission 10 years ago.
I really do hope they are not the only names in contention here! Hoping to see fresh faces that are actually involved in the Wafl/ Amatuers. Also would be great to have representation or two from the country areas. A lot of city folk think WA only exists within the city limits.
Those 2 names mentioned I think is not the direction.

It's as obvious as the nose on your face who is sounding out Neale Fong and Dixie Marshall. The outgoing WAFC chairman is the one who advertised Expressions of Interest to be directors on the WAFC just last week.

Here we have a parliamentary enquiry into the running of the WAFC and the bloke who is most under the microscope is cherry picking the next wave of commissioners he thinks will cause the least harm to him and existing commissioner's.
Get on your bike.
It was Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve.

There could possibly be a conflict of interest there with his current club still owing over $250k that was loaned to them from the wafc!
Probably try and have that loan walked away from like their other debts!

Bullwinkle wrote: Get your heads out of the sand. Its embarrassing enough for WA Football that the WAFL has sucked up so much of the games money over the past 20 years, you have to now embarrass yourself by asking where it went. Questions you should have been asking the insolvent club boards yourselves. WAFLsomniacs continue refusing the reality that the WAFC admin wages were also paying for wafl marketing and events, media management, talent development, umpiring, legal, management, competition operations, advertising, zone development, free tickets to the afl every weekend in a corporate piss up box, free trips to afl grand finals for club presidents and ceos and god only knows how many club bail outs. FFS it is past the time that WAFL accepts the inevitable, stops living beyond its means and stops pretending that is still relevant.

You clearly have a lot of disdain for all things WAFL, even us “waflsomniacs.” But how could you possibly think the WAFL is no longer relevant? It’s a second tier of the game in this country.

Go down to your local under 15s and ask them to name their favorite WAFL player......

2nd tier or 2nd rate?

30 years ago the WAFL had hero's.
