That opens the way for Brady Grey, Fraser McInness and Andrew Fisher to remain at Perth.

The article also says Peel president Ross Ditchburn wants to end the alignment with Fremantle when their agreement runs out at the end of next year so it looks like it's all going back to the old way pre alignments.

Well that is fantastic news.
Just wonder how long it lasts for?

You blokes are unreal. For years everyone has been saying how great it would be for the WAFL if Perth could make the finals. Now that we are in sight of doing so (and, no, I am getting ahead of myself), there are more than a few people saying we got lucky, it means nothing in context of the season, how funny it would be if we choked, and now salary cap rumours. Yes, we were lucky to get McInnes, etc, and I would prefer to make finals in a full season, but can only play the season we've got with the players available to us. God forbid the S, SF, C and WP stranglehold on the top four should ever be broken.

And on this topic, this should be the catalyst for Peel to leave the WAFL. I accept that may not be possible under the constitution if they are paying their way but, as much as I disliked the alignment system, Peel sort of made sense as an aligned team. As a stand alone team they don't and never will. They are just a drain on players and resources.

Ted...Peel aren't paying their way as I understand it they still owe the WAFC $200k plus from a bailout loan a few years ago.

I was one of the ones whom originally liked the idea of a Mandurah entering the Wafl.
However the original reasoning evaporated long ago and now the current mess is there. Going to be interesting to see what unfolds.

Would be fantastic!

WAG Peel have been pretty competitive this year and basically given most opponents a good fight with the exception of WP and surprisingly EF when you consider how difficult EP found it last year, the first year out of the alignment and they had little time to be prepared.

Only 50 players will be taken out of this years draft so they might not lose any players in this years draft and they are cashed up, though as BC said they are still paying off their WAFC loan. So they will have the means to recruit and with lists being reduced there will be a lot of players squeezed out available for anyone with a big cheque book.

I look at it on the positive side, clean slate for everyone and it's a case of back to the future. As Southerner said, Fremantle might want to pull the plug early on the alignment to save a few bucks and Peel will be happy with that by the sounds of it. At least they have a name that represents their area unlike a certain club NOR. Although is the name "Peel" one associated with white colonization? I think it has been brought as a blacklist of names that should be removed. They should be called Mandurah anyway. I know there's a local country team called Mandurah but surely they can work something out.

I don't think Aunty has got the pennies to spend these days with mass cutbacks so I think we might be stuck with Channel Stokes for a while.

So do we assume that the AFL leftovers will be distributed amongst the 9 WAFL teams via a draft as it was previously, bottom team from this season gets first pick?, if so some questions need to be considered.

1. Given the current recruiting restrictions on Subi, will they be included in the draft?
2. How much influence will there be by the 2 AFL teams on the WAFL clubs that host their
players regarding where they play, how they play and how long they play, this previously
caused some angst and tended to unbalance teams, especially when they demanded a player
would only play restricted times.
3. Will the WAFL clubs salary caps be reduced according to how many AFL players play each
week, eg if 5 AFL players play the club only pays 17 players so their allowable cap is
reduced accordingly?

The WAFL clubs need to get some clear answers on these questions, and there will be many more.

Depending on who you get allocated, mediocre AFL listed players can be more of a hindrance than a help.

SS not sure Subi would want players that don't train and work as hard as Subi players.
