I may be listening at the wrong hours of the day perhaps?
Would be lovely stuff to hear the media get on board, both screen and radio dial to start promoting/ advertising the Wafl start date.
Many people might be unaware.
Not a slave to the screen and tonight is the first time it's been switched on this week. Perhaps I missed the main stream media interest on the screen? There's 3 main local radio stations in the immediate area and not heard any Wafl mentioned.

Well they always do a fantastic Wafl coverage.
But one might be tinkering in the shed or out and about in the vehicle. Would be lovely to simply turn a wireless on match day to listen, but my antenna could be a mile high in the air and still can't receive Perth stations from here.
Fantastic to hear Wafl World has returned. Will download the podcast thingy tomorrow and listen in upon arriving home.

Just really hope we can get to Stage 5 on the 18th, otherwise this could be a lot harder.

Fremantle Oval under the current rules could hold 5000, but with spacing out, I don't think seating is required but it may be which is a huge issue, the stands would be an issue with the 2 meter rule.

So you want stage 5 so you can have a bumper Fremantle derby crowd at Fremantle Oval so it’s a big windfall for your club but don’t want Melbourne teams to come here which would mean AFL season over and no Perth AFL Derby.

My gut feeling is stage 5 will be put on hold and that won’t be a bad thing.

Based on recent figures, 5k for a derby would be pretty good, if we get 2.5+k for Su v Cl it would be great, so even if stage 5 doesn't come in we can still get good wafl crowds out to games. The AFL can have 30k so thats still a reasonable crowd at Optus and will create plenty of atmosphere.

I see Swans Pres Peter Hodyl taking a shot at Souths and Easts for talking up the Derby. I reckon he should either actively encourage the promotion for the good of the WAFL or just worry about a chronically underperforming bogans team.

"Swan Districts president Peter Hodyl has ignited a war of words with South Fremantle and East Fremantle after accusing them of “gloating” and being “disrespectful” to the WAFL competition in their bid to get 10,000 spectators to the season-opening Fremantle derby.

The Bulldogs hope to draw the maximum possible crowd to Fremantle Community Bank Oval when the WAFL season starts next Saturday.

The City of Fremantle has designated an official capacity of 10,000 at the ground, a figure that has not been reached this century though it was exceeded 144 times in the previous 50 years.

South Fremantle have been promoting the game extensively throughout the Fremantle community with the slogan Festival of Footy.

But Hodyl, whose team will host West Perth on the same day, was angered by the Fremantle promotion.

“I hear a lot from both East and South Fremantle gloating about potentially having a huge crowd at their first game,” Hodyl said.

“This is very disrespectful to the rest of the competition, especially for Swans."
“Our supporters have proven time and time again that they are the most committed across all WAFL clubs.

“Recent history clearly shows that Swans have a huge following, regardless of the weather or our ladder position.”

East Fremantle fired back by asking Hodyl when Swans last drew a crowd above 5000 while South Fremantle president Peter Christie was taken aback by the comments.

“We’re not interested in talking about other clubs,” Christie said.

“We are looking forward to celebrating the return of football to WA.

“But if we have to close the gates because we get 10,000 to the derby, that would be a problem worth having.”

Swans averaged crowds of 1734 at Steel Blue Oval last year when they received the wooden spoon and became the first WAFL club to finish 10th on the ladder.

East Fremantle drew an average of 1889 at New Choice Homes Park – with the peak against South Fremantle when 5050 fans watched the WA Day derby.
