Spot on mate, i agree with you hence i havent bitched about the game at all. I only posted because everyone elses opinions/ stories were getting old or werent telling it the way it happened.

I believe it was a big balls up, i believe we should have had someone on the time keepers table and i also believe i gave away a free kick before the siren which would have probably have been a goal after the siren any way.
The fact the umpire paid advantage and the goal was kicked after the siren and in the extra 1min 27secs is the thing i dont understand. Not much we can do about it now anyway.

I think any player on the receiving end of what happened would expect to have a bitch, you guys serious? No it may not change the result but fair dinkum Basso were robbed! So in saying that after all the training sessions, injuries, pre season etc to have the game awarded to a team that it shouldn't have, should rightly upset any sports person. Mossie should feel very lucky and maybe Karma will happen against Quinns.

Look I'd be pretty dirty like Maggies is too if the boot was on the other foot. Its a long tough season no one wants to get knocked out like that. The league took the step of providing nuetral umps for finals the next step now is to send an official as well to keep time and check the rule book.

I was in our backline when the siren went after flicking out a handball that started our match winning 10 second coast to coast (lucky we have a small ground, we would've only got to the centre circle at Jubilee Reserve!) But from what I understand the ump paid the free kick, siren went as we played on, kick at goal was a second after the siren. Since the ump didnt have time to call "play on" between paying the free and the siren going, technically he shouldve called it back for a set shot, because you cant pay advantage after the sirens gone but its not offically advantage and play on until the umpire calls "play on advantage". However I also believe the game isnt 'oficially' over until the ump blows his whistle so that on saturday is the only situation when the game can be 'over' but free play can keep going... figure that one out. Strange game we play.

Arizona, you make sense! Sounds like you also believe you were lucky? Like your opinion as well about feeling dirty, any competitive person would instead of just saying , oh well we lost when we shouldn't have . Been following the club for a while now and I couldn't believe what happened!

Not the players fault as they played the game, it's the clubs! If the club is proud of winning like that then they have issues. Good post Arizona.

Cheers again for your honest input....i have just looked on fixtures for next week and quinns get a home prelim?? I thought prelims were neutral grounds? I am pretty sure last years were at gosnells?

Young I think you have missed the point. The kick after the siren would not have happened if the correct time was stuck too . The extra time cost you, not the kick after the siren . You played ok as well. Your club must be filthy on what has happened .

The time keeping issue you raise Maggies I have no intimate knowledge of so cant comment on that.

And no I dont believe we were 'lucky' as such, the umpire interpreted a rule just like he does 20 times throughout a game. I'd be dirty losing any game with the last kick of the day, especially a final. I'm no expert but I was just saying if the siren had gone as a player played on as whats been suggested in previous posts it probably should be a set shot (in this case 10m out directly in front). Thats just my personal interpretation of the rule but I'm no umpire and since I was in the back 50 at the time there were 41 players 2 field umpires, 2 boundry umpires and one goal umpire closer to it than me so I'll stay away from the he said she said... just wanted to put some common sense earlier amongst all the bickering.

Anyway thats now 2 more posts than I'd planned on making so will leave the discussion back up to you guys now.

Why they changed it is beyond me (it was changed this year). I too think it is stupid.

@Maggies, what I was trying to get at a couple of pages back with my original post in regards to the games are made up of hundreds of moments is that this is just another one of the 'what ifs'.

'What if' you guys hadnt have missed that set shot
'What if' Mosman Park hadnt missed that set shot
'What if' that tackle stuck
'What if' you guys had another defender or 2 deep in the last qtr.
'What if' Basso had supplied a time keeper

I know it sucks for you lads, and by the sounds of it you have every right to be pissed off, but like I said games of footy are made up of hundreds of moments and to pin point a loss to one single moment isnt right, IMO.
Anyway, please dont think I am having a dig at you or any of the other Basso players, just trying to help you see things from a different perspective.
