Viper we did have our own time keeper but when the siren is upstairs on the balcony with all the supporters things are a bit hard to maintain!!!

If I was the time keeper I'd have been shoving spectators out of the way to press that button.

From what I could see Viper there was a different person doing the siren to the 2 time keepers, with the yellow card, I'm not 100% sure with what happened so really I can't comment.

Unfortunately I think you're going to learn the hard way like we did.

Timekeeper sits with theirs at the siren. We got lucky with our incident and you guys haven't by the sounds of it.

You'll just have to have a rematch next year when Quinns win this weekend. :woohoo:
Dont blame the umps - they dont time keep and in fact I believe are not even allowed to wear a watch during a game. Sounds like some poor administration by both clubs (yellow card timing and time in general) and as much whining as there is on this forum its the final score that counts. Mossies v Bulls in the Prelim.

This seems to have been the hottest topic in Ammos since the forum switched from footygoss. Must agree with Viper that there is little sympathy for the Basso timekeeper if he didn't make the effort to blow the siren.

Any keen to move on and discuss next weeks game?

Interesting reading this afternoon. Funniest part of all of this is noone ( from my club or mosman park) having the balls to show who they really are, they would rather hide behind their usernames on this site. Adding a real name to your username would add creditability to the story.
So for some creditability for my club here is my story of events. I am a player at basso, played yesterday, wore number 16 and name is Darren Young. Been involved at the club for 7 yrs as a player and coach.

I will address a couple of issues that have been spoken about on this forum.

1. Head count- during the 3rd quarter (we had the breeze) the mossie captain asked for a head count because he believed we had a player on the ground that received a yellow card during the second quarter. The umpire asked the skipper (#47) if he was sure he wanted to call it and the answer was yes. A head count was then completed finding us having 18 players and mossies having 18players on the playing surface. The end penalty for mossie was a free kick against them from the centre of the ground? Im not sure on the ruling but not a very harsh penalty for such a big stop in play. In saying that i do believe time was stopped. We were not in the wrong because our team manager had asked the umpires at half time if our player was that was yellow carded was allowed to start on the ground in the 3rd quarter which both umpires said yes he is able to be on the ground.

2. Time keeper positioning- i was on the bench for the last 2 mins of the 3rd quarter and our timer sounded and our bench and supporters were screaming and carrying on for the siren because the ball was in mossie fwd line. The mossies time keeper ( who was up on the balcony in the licensed area) called out and said there was 2.30min left because time had been stopped due to head count. Time keeper was correct in this case and our bench and supporters were made to look silly.

3. Injury in the 4th. Mossies kicked the ball fwd and there was a rush to the goal square with my self and their ff and our fb. I rushed the ball through for a behind but mossies ff fell on our fb and he hurt his shoulder. The stretcher was called by one of our players but it did not enter the playing surface. The umpire held up play to allow the player to get out of the goal square because we needed to kick the ball in. Again i am not sure on the ruling but i was under the impression time can only be stopped if an umpire approaches timekeeper/calls out time needs to be stopped. The umpire did put his hand up in the air to call time but he had done that numerous times during the game as habit i think ( eg a ball up, freekick etc)

4. Player staging for free kicks/time wasting- mossie kicked ball out on the full deep inside their 50. One of our mids received the free kick. He was knocked to the ground when given the ball back so umpire paid a 50m penalty ( yeh i reckon he did play for it, but that is football). As he was moving up the ground with ump and opponent, mossie player again bumped him to the ground resulting in another 50m being payed and the mossie player receiving a yellow card. The umpire the escorted mossie player off the ground but we were only give one 50m penalty. So instead of being put in fwd 50 we were still at half back. I dont believe the mossie player deserved the yellow card their was nothing in the 2nd bump.

Mbah for u to say that this player should hang his head in shame is a disgrace and u are an idiot that doesn't know too much about footy. This happens in every game i have ever played or watched. Players throwing their heads back, falling forward in tackles, dropping when they get a bump.

5. 4th Quarter going for 1min 27sec over- we had possession of the ball for the last couple of mins. At one stage i had the ball at half back and i received a msg from our runner saying there was one minute left. So as any clever football side would try to do if they were holding a 1pt lead with 1min to go we chipped the ball around. There were about (not sure exactly) 5 marks taken up the wing. We then went long down the line to a contest. Mossies got the ball and rebound through the outer wing, i pushed deep into the d50. Mossies brought the footy up quickly and a long kick was put into the goal square where i was backing back into 2 mossie park players who had snuck forward. I made front on contact with the player. i did think i turned my body and my eyes were on the ball when i made contact but footy is a tough game and sometimes decisions go against you (so im not disputing the free kick). A free kick was paid to the player i made contact with. A mossie park player the picked the ball up and advantage was given. THIS IS WHERE IT GETS INTERESTING. As the player was paid advantage the siren sounded and he took 3 steps then kicked the goal. The umpire allowed the goal to stand.
Now i do believe our bench were celebrating because the siren had sounded as mossie player was running into an open goal and 3 or 4 of the mossie players had lumped to the ground because they knew they had lost (this is what my gf had told me after the game) I was too deep in d50 to see any of this though.

So as some have stated yes a very eventful day at mossie. The thing i am most annoyed at is the lack of confidence from both umpires in regards to crucial laws of the game/ by laws of the ammos. Im not saying umpires should be perfect but some communication from them would have made things easier.
Footylad you are right we should have supplied a time keeper but was there a time keeper table at the interchange bench? I honestly dont know if there was or wasnt. But i do know when i was on the bench in the 3rd qu ur time keeper was up on the balcony ( a licensed drinking area) when there was two and a half minutes left on the clock.
I do know that the 4th quarter went for an extra 1min 27seconds and the siren was miraculously sounded after you were awarded a free kick 15m out from goal and as another player was paid advantage.
Again i will state WE SHOULD HAVE HAD SOMEONE ON TIMEKEEPER BENCH AND WHEN THE 25 mins WAS UP THEY SHOULD HAVE KICKED UP A STINK, so im not too sure of what will happen with this.

On a closing note to maggies, ace, mbah, footylad, just quietly and anyone else on here backing up their club- by all means do that but there is no creditability if you are afraid of revealing your real name etc.

To the rest of the ammo people reading this- maggies, ace, and i think just quietly seemed to be from my club. We are not sore losers but are frustrated over the way things have been handled. To work so hard for so long this year to have success and for that to be taken away by bad decisions or extra time being added to the final qu is a bitter pill to swallow (and if you are passionate about footy and understand footy you too would be pretty annoyed about how it went down)

I am happy to discuss this further with anyone that is willing to put their name behind their statements.

Very well put, footballs a funny game like that and it sounds as though you guys were just really unlucky with some of the calls.
All the best for next year

Young88 I think you will find that the Mossie Park captain will be reported for time wasting which is standard procedure in this scenario. Also umpires are allowed to wear a watch and many do. Third quarter yellow card incident should have resulted in a double 50m penalty and I don't understand why it would not have been. Depending on the amount of force used then a yellow card may well have been warranted for unduly rough play or simply misconduct.
Will be interesting to see if the league take any action. My guess is they will just issue a memorandum to all clubs about time keeping responsibilities. Not a nice way to end your season but maybe a lesson to be learnt by many out of this shambles.

My name is irrelevant. I speak nothing but honest account. I am a player of less than 100 games and my name has no significance. But i have enough of a handle to know sport. I was not on field yesterday but was at the ground. Sleuth more if you like.
The hang your heads comment was a reversal of a cheap comment against MP. I made it quite clear. Take it as that alone, my comment would not have been made without the prior comment. All said, you breached the rules, got away with it, and given a reward for it!
Let it be known the momentum was with Mossies when the illegal player was called out. It was not in MPs interest to stall the match, nor the intent.
Feel free to jump on as honorary Quinns fans and root against us next week. But quit it with the cheap accusations.

Where are my cheap accusations?
And as i stated our manager approached the umpires at half time and asked if he was allowed to start in the third quarter because we were unsure of the ruling. So i dont know how we breached the rules?? If anything we did the right thing by asking the question.

At no stage have i bagged mossie park and i did not say they have done anything wrong/ accused them of anything. I did not say they called a head count to stop play or change momentum. If anything the umpires needed to be clearer on when time starts or stops. But yet again ur happy to have ur say without exposing ur name so your credibility is equal to ZERO.

Were Mossies told of this? They should have been, because our player was carded at the same moment. If this is indeed true, it is again a fault of the umpires. You'd agree the captain would not have called for action had we been notified.

And yeah, accusing us of hiding our true identities is a cheap accusation against our honesty. It's an internet forum and I give an honest account - saying my word is worthless without complete IDing is cheap. You know what I speak of, and that it is true, even if from an opposing side of the fence. I do feel for you in a narrow loss, but the constant whining is pushing it.

FWIW I only came here to balance the account of the match. I know you won't give up on your stance, but nor will I so to continue achieves nothing. We've both had our say. We now have another match to worry about, so don't be alarmed if I don't continue this debate any further.
Much love, mbah.
