Baz: because we live in a post-national country, one which no longer refers to our British traditions; you know the country has lost it when Liberal Party voters want to get rid of the Crown and flag an then rave on about having lost Australia's traditions.

Trudeau has coined the term: 'post national', making Canada, as in a magic show, no longer English or French. Naturally, such rot, has not gone down that well with Quebec Nationalists or the Empire Loyalists of Canada. We shall see what happens.

Unka2 BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT RELEVANT. If you think that they should be included then SHOULD WE INCLUDE ALL THE VISITORS? The answer is NO. The proof is in the ABS statistics given above.

Further if you want to see how disgraceful the Nationals are just listen to the incoherent Barnaby Joyce in question time now.

The proof is in the DIMA figures,,,Hanson was right - to quote her? Please Explain why we need 180,000 immigrants a year, now mainly from Asia with India and China leading the way ... when unemployment is growing , we have a housing affordability and apparent shortage homeless and waiting lists and our health and medicare/welfare system is under strain not to mention public transport etc etc etc....Foreing students visitors yeah right,,,pull the other one, they come here on a student visa, apply for a permanent visa and then end up staying and then get citizenship, hey presto mum and day get in ,,hence the huge disparity in parent reunions - 4000 Chinese...

not to mention the property scam that allows Chinese buyer to circumvent the foreign ownership laws - buy a property in the student visa name, while mum and dad fund it and wait to move over, forcing prices up.

fark how gullible and gormless are you swan...

nothing wrong with Barnaby rather him than that bloke WONG.

The ABS statistics prove the opposite. The problem with the housing affordability problem in Sydney is not foreign ownership. The problem is primarily one where those trying to buy their home are outbid by property developers.

Just listen to the incoherent rantings of Barnaby Joyce. We had a Federal Government today, to save face on the backpackers' tax, blew out the budget bottom line to the tune of $100 million to buy the Green's votes.

Swan 42: the silly thing is that both sides came out of that little confrontation damagged, the ALP because it looked more extreme than the Greens, Turnbull, on his side, because he made concessions to the Greens.

I don't think Turnbill will make it; but, equally, I am uncertain Shorten will be the next Prime Minster.

Personally I would have preferred Anthony Albanese to be the Labor leader. However, the stench is overwhelming with respect to the $100 million bribe to buy the Greens' votes. It is my understanding that with the other copromises the effective rate willbe 13 cents in the dollar taxe rate but the headline figure will be 15 cents in the dollor to tha=e prospective backpakers. It was all done to save face for Turnbull and the ever increasing dud that is Scott Morrison.

That overgrown pig Barnaby embarrassed himself today, I saw it and you could see pollies on both sides laughing at him as he rambled and rambled on making zero sense, his face went purple. One day he is going to drop dead from a massive heart attack or stroke during his incoherent rants I reckon!
Beneath the Southern cross i stand, on Bassendean Oval, can in hand, Swan Districts, you Farkin Beauty!

SD: your right ---he could have said all he did in a much softer voice in half the time. I watch quite a bit of parliamentary Tv from across the Commonwealth and there is notheing like him in the Queen's other realms.

Swan 42: the one I think Bolt will really have a go out is the IR stuff: that two year clause makes the whole thing nonsensical; life will be hard for Turnbull.

It just seems such a long time since we have had a decent Wa State Government.Maby Dr Gallop 2001,05.Some pretty average Labour Governments in the late 80.s.Court Government sold allmost everything and still left us with a huge debt.
The LNP seem to do a reasonable job in Federal government.They govern about 60% of the time.Only out of office for 13 years during the Hawke + Keating era.But in WA there apsolutley useless.Since Sir Charles pulled the pin.

Not to sure what court Gov you are talking about , but R Court inherited one of the worst economic records and government accountability performances in our history , WA Inc. and the disaster it left behind the place was broke and he was able to clean it up and ended up miles better than when he started.

we haven't had a really decent State Gov since the Brand/Court era.

Heres my predictions:

One Nation to have a huge impact ( Dick Smith announced his support today)

Labor to retake Pilbara;

Col to suffer a massive swing in his own seat;

Sneakers will be in the Chair come March.
