looks like the Eagles and local council have clashed over the use of the ground.

my understanding was that the eagles were only ever going to use the ground as training facility, but now they are hosting a pre season game there.

the local council says that's in breach of the agreement, and the ground is not designed to host crowds of several thousand any longer, also with a reserves and now womens side this could become a long term issue, fair enough as well..

I think our Demons supporters on here would love a pre-season game at lathlain, would be a reasonable financial windfall for the club with bar and food takings, but if the agreement says no AFL games then thats it. We all know how much our Perth friends love a good and binding contract.

Correct SS. The PFC love any games to be played at MRP. In fact the club have a special function for tomorrow and I expect HJ will have there facility open.
No doubt our can bar and outer bar will be operating as well as the upstairs bar. We will not miss out on any opportunities to boost our revenue.
I do not know what the agreement is with the council but we will allow them to sort that out with the Eagles. It has nothing to do with PFC. I cannot see the harm in the odd one off AFL game.
The Arena at Joondalup will be hosting a Dockers game. So why not MRP?

Well there is breach of conditions to start with.

But the real issue is the facility is no longer has the ability to cope with a large crowd as well as parking problems around the area.

Arena Joondalup as a heap bigger and has been hosting them for years.

Not sure what they are expecting but if they don't have enough toilets etc its problem.

I do not know what size of crowd you expect to attend. Will it be 5k, 10k, 20k ? Maybe more?
Surely the facilities at MRP have been considered by the AFL under whose auspices the game is scheduled.
There is plenty of seating and standing room in the grandstand and around the ground.
In addition there are new toilets in the new outer facility including disabled toilets and I suspect that all facilities at the ground meet all requirements for the venue.

the pre-season fixtures were released on October 28 last year.
either the council is asleep at the wheel or hoped no residents would complain.
bit late to be blaming the Eagles.

Absolutely. And to suggest that no due diligence was done in respect to the venue and facilities is simply ludicrous.

Seems like a crock as far as the Council is concerned, cant see any reason not to have it at Lathlain, but if not, happy to host it at leederville ;)

It all boils down to the USELESS millennials of today who live in their own little world of self importance. Lathlain Park has ALWAYS been a WAFL ground that has catered for crowds of up to 18,000 since it was built in the 1950's.

I can guarantee you it's these precious millennials who are arcing up and it's those same precious millennials who would have put pressure on the Victoria park council to fuck up the road running across the back of the ground, a beautiful wide road now with the tightest chicanes I have ever driven through.

The demographic of Lathlain has obviously changed. So if Perth play finals this year and lets say play a semi final and a prelim final at Lathlain i'd say expect crowds of between 5 and 10,000 in attendance. How will those precious millennials cope the poor darlings?

Spot on MO...you'd think the council would have been contingency planning for weeks in expectation of a big crowd based on other Eagles preseason games in previous years so to come out now to have a whinge just makes no sense at all.
