Anyone else get the impression the gov are not handling this as well as they should be?

I reckon flights should be stopped, there seems to be an over sensitivity here to hurting Chinas feelings.

Yes I agree although allowing the flights to come you can control the passengers on board and screen them all at once. Cancel the flights and they'll still get here somehow but maybe by a more circuitous route which would make them harder to find and isolate.

You can tell where each passenger has come from on arrival, just let it be known anyone arriving from China via another route would be held in isolation.

Good to see the Fed Govt taking decisive action to try and control the CV from spreading further into Australia by opening up the Christmas Island detention centre. Once the Chinese Govt give us the go ahead to evac our citizens currently confined from Wuhan, they will be flown to Learmonth airport, then onto Christmas island for 14 days to see if they are carrying the virus, after which, if clear will be repatriated to their home cities. Commonsense and practical solution to what could be a real health disaster. Not sure yet if all travellers from China will be subject to the same procedures but it would make a lot of sense.

Of course the bleeding hearts are on the whinge regarding civil right etc, but the civil rights of the greater Australian population are far more important imho.

On a more serious note, this thing is spreading much more rapidly than the SARS virus. Not sure it’s going to be any worse than the flu season we just had. It knocked me around this winter.

This thing is growing legs and spreading fast. Our own CSIRO could be the first to come up with a vaccine.

Problem is, if a person has a very low immunity system, then even the flu is dangerous to them. This lack of resistance to diseases can be caused by old age, illness or certain medications. This is a scary disease.

Qantas has canned flights in and out of China.

Anyone visiting from or has passed through China is now banned from entering Australia. That’s how serious this has got. It’s a big blow to tourism and will take several months to be declared safe enough to lift the restriction I reckon.
