The modern world is so mobile with massive cruise ships and thousands of international flights daily, it doesn't take too many infected individuals to spread the virus all over the place, so a complete shutdown is really the only sensible way to go, tough on the infected but they will only be in the isolation camps for 14 days so not too bad given what would happen without these steps.

Apparently Australian citizens exempt SS I just edited my post but the Chinese governments obsession with its own supreme power over everything is to blame for the delayed knowledge of it and actions taken. According to reports I read they tried to suppress anyone from talking about it and detained those who were caught spreading news about it on social media.

I reckon flights should be stopped, there seems to be an over sensitivity here to hurting Chinas feelings.

Spot on there. The whole thing has been handled poorly.
International flights originating from China should have been stopped long before this.
All our bloody government was worried about was the decline in the tourism dollar it would cause!
The news of today where many airlines are now cancelling or re-routing international flights across to china. Many cruise ship companies are now doing the same. Qantas just announced they will suspend its two direct flight routes from Australia to mainland China in response to travel restrictions imposed by some countries due to the coronavirus crisis. But the Qantas flight suspensions will not take effect until the 9th of Feb! Why not take such action immediately?

Big difference between pollution that slowly kills you over many decades and a virus that can strike you down fatally within days and China’s pollution doesn’t make people sick in Australia and other countries although I’m sure their pollution does dissipate throughout the earths atmosphere. But we don’t see 12 year olds saying to China HOW DARE YOU!!

That should be the soon to be Nobel Prize winner's first assignment. She should be cock-a-hoop, perhaps she'll be ably supported by those Hollywood mega stars who are pumping her tyres up.

Sounds like they have finally taken some action and banned the flights.

China has banned eating wild animals in China, thought to be the source of this virus. They are known to eat things that are repulsive to us. Time for China to catch up with the 21st century. I wonder what legal implications this could have? Could companies sue the Chinese government for their negligence?

This thing is having a massive economic global impact.

Don't expect any aussie companies to be pursuing china for compensation. It just won't happen even if it could. The plonkers in blundersville will squash that idea immediately.
Like they are with indonesia, the australian government is scared of china. And it was mid January when the chinese said, Beijing is willing to hurt Australian companies if the Federal Government defies the Chinese Communist Party.
