This is systemic failure and by convention the Minister should resign. Don't hold your breath though.
What a singularly quaint notion in the context of contemporary Australian politics.

By the way hasn't the CAHS Board Chair resigned?
What’s quaint is your slavish devotion to the red flag
Which red flag are you referring to?

....And I wonder what the result had been if the premier or a govt minister had rocked up to the "emergency" department with a sick member of their damn family? Wonder if they'd be found waiting 2 hours in a so called emergency room? Or be attended to a lot sooner?
Begs the question does it not?

Yes and so should Cook. In the Westminster system the relevant Minister is responsible for abject failures such as the one plaguing our health system. McGoo should do the right thing and bring in someone who can do the job.

BC that wont happen Cook is head of the powerful UV ( United Voice) left wing faction , which bizarely includes the Nurses Union which explains why unlike the AMA the Nurses Union are supporting Cook, its all one stinking circle.

Labor is riddled with the stench of power and it’s on full display. You see it in McGowan’s arrogance and contempt and yesterday made me sick seeing footage of Cooked sipping his coffee in parliament (never seen this before in my life, must be what happens when you dominate the house), before grandstanding on a young girls grave in parliament repeating, NOTHING IS GOING TO BRING AISHWARYA BACK.

You heartless mongrel dog, that’s all you are. The lack of empathy and sympathy this government has shown this family is appalling in the name of defending themselves first. This government lacks character and is run by a dictator obsessed with his almighty grip on power.

All power to you Mia Davies, Libby Mettam and David Honey. Hold these bastards accountable.

Yep as obvious as daylight it’s a you scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours set up between Olsen and Cooked from Olsen’s interview with Liam Bartlett a couple weeks ago and yesterday’s ringing endorsement of Captain Cook by Olsen.

More revelations coming out of a health system under immense pressure with two hospitals declaring code yellows during the week. Given McGoo and Cooked's performance in the past, I'm surprised they haven't announced they will be "closing the doors" of hospitals. That seems to have fixed everything else according to those two.

Without seeming to support the current government and its health performance but it does seem to be a nation wide issue. A quick search indicates that all states are having issues with ramping, over crowding, ER's being used as GP surgeries etc.

Not sure how it gets fixed other that going to a building process but that takes a few years to get going and perhaps an education programme that teaches folk that a running nose is not an emergency!

Long waits in ED are sadly universal and always been prevalent within my ED working experience....so many contributing factors....staff shortage, staff fatigue, frequent flyers and a high number of  non ED presentations clogging the ED.....increase in Mental Health related presentations due to lack of funding resulting in reduced community support / services available and over worked/ under staffed Mental Health Crisis teams resulting in patients slipping through the cracks.

Spent many an ED  shift dealing with a resus....or many a resus, as well as some aggressive, agitated drug fuelled punter causing mayhem....or an overdose, self harm individual as well as everyday folk with their week or  month old issues, seeking a resolvement then and there.

Be interested to know how many of those Ambulance presentations are actual ED presentations, in my experience many folk think arriving in an ambulance fast tracks them....simply doesnt.....also whose to say the Triage staff are experienced at this role....making poor triage calls.....with plenty of experienced folk leaving due to monetary, fatigue, simply had a guts full reasons, the staff replacing them aren't as experienced, merely management filling a number quota, irrespective of skill mix

So many contributing factors to why such sad events happen....terrible for the individual and family, but how many successful resuscitations make front page news?....you aren't going to save all, but pretty sure more patients are saved then lost in many an ED around the world....nothing new sadly......too many chiefs and not enough Indians in the health sector....too many layers of middle management getting well paid for doing fark all......nothing has changed in the 30 years of my working in the health sector....Aust, UK, U.S. or NZ....

Think Grump had hit the nail on the head with his post.....

I thought I also add that it never ceases to amaze me that folk go into hospital for the same procedure and one stays for a week that the others is out in 2 or three days (or until the piss properly). The difference is one was a private and the other public. (both relatives). The ops were for hips!

It seems to me that the issue is not just with the politics but the seemingly deep seated bureaucratic processes of the admin and doctors.
