Chappy Jones is back at the club. While he didn’t set the world on fire at WP, hopefully being back home will help him get back up to the level he was at colts

I will not hold my breath on this one. Age 25...where has he been other than WP?  Highlights ok but how old were they?
Ressies stats for 2021 not impressive to say the least.

No harm in getting Jones back as a one pointer, but I hope he doesn't play league. If he does, it will mean we will be in the middle of another injury crisis. I would think we are unlikely to be affected by the draft. Avery is a chance. Langlands had injury problems, but was fairly poor otherwise, and you would think AFL clubs would need to see him dominate the WAFL before he had a chance of getting re-drafted. Stubbs and Grocott are kidding themselves. I just hope they don't lose heart if overlooked and decide to play ammos.

Sorry Ted, but I have to disagree in reference to Jones. We don't need former players to return to the club at age 25 if they have achieved very little, if anything at all, since leaving.  IMHO, we have to stop looking backwards and instead move on with fresh outlooks that give certainty to a new integrity of our performances both on and off the field.
We must concentrate on identifying and giving opportunities to fresh talent and not keep on regurgitating players that have little to offer the club going forward. No future in clogging the transition paths.

AFL drafts all done and dusted. Commiserations to our guys who missed out. We will look forward to seeing you all in Perth colors in the coming season. I thought Jack Avery would be drafted. He would have been a huge loss for us as would Brayden Ainsworth. It would have been difficult to replace those two. Our recruiting programme would have been turned upside down.
As the dust settles we should gradually see recuiting finalised by all WAFL clubs. Looking forward to see how 2022 season starts shaping up for all clubs.

There's still the rookie draft and mid-season draft, but so far so good. We should still have at least 12 points to work with, so hopefully we can add another 1-2 quality players.

Ted, the rookie draft was done this morning. Only the mid-season draft to come so we can expect no lossess, if any, until then.
I would be pretty unhappy to lose a key player at that stage.
I agree we should have scope to add a couple of quality players. I would like a tall goalkicker and another tall defender for cover. I believe that with the addition of Ainsworth we have the midfield covered. It will be a bonus that an injury free season from Langlands would give us plenty of run and goals.

I think we're ok for tall backs on paper. We have Gibba, Hill, Sinkers, Nicholas and Avery all over 190cm, plus hopefully Jaiden Hunter will have a breakout season at league level - he prefers playing back to ruck/forward. There's even La Fontaine as depth, though I don't really rate him. I'd like see Nicholas and/or Avery used as tall wingers. They are fast, have a penetrating kick and could be hard to match up on.

Nicholas and Davis are running backs and linebreakers. It will be interesting to watch Hunter develop in the coming season. He did struggle this last season with injury and I think we asked too much of him to replace McDonald. He certainly shows talent and, perhaps some time in the gym might be useful to improve his physical strength. I think Hill would also benefit from building his strength. Yes, Hunter could be tried down back but not without the gym work IMO.
