Both stories are on the club’s website. They did have a video up of Ainsworth coming into the club and signing but they removed that (not sure why).

No great loss, it has to be said, though it affects our depth.

It's all well and good to call some players "list cloggers", but the fact remains that we need a squad of players to choose from, as last year's injury toll demonstrated. Having mature age, local players is important in that regard. Otherwise, we will be forced to pick up fringe players from other clubs just to get our numbers up. It is highly likely that not a single colts player from last year will play league, so we need existing players to stick around. We've now lost Rogers, Eyres, Colledge, Richo, Yeo, Hendo and Eddo from this year's squad. That won't have a major impact on our league team for 2022 but they still need to be replaced for the sake of depth.

Excuse the comment but the problem is also that players get complacent abt their spots with no competition within the list or a coaches refusal to drop the under performers or reward the in for players in the 2's. List strength is necessary!

That is 7 players out including the retirees. Some were 1 point players. More may follow. Avery and Ainsworth still in the draft which drags on until early next year. Not a lot coming through the ranks.
It is to be hoped that we have contingency plans in place to replace our losses within the salary and points caps.

The way it is looking we are going to have a very thin squad next year. We will be very inexperienced and have to hope we get lucky with injuries, unlike this year. Edmonds played almost the whole season in the league side and will be missed. Yeo maybe not so much with his knee injury basically finishing him at WAFL league level. Eyres will be a loss as well, if all we have go with are DBW and Reid. Hendo was a role player who did some good tagging jobs over the years but was inconsistent. Our recruiting up til now has been anything but exciting. Ainsworth and Ajang and that’s it. No Mayne, who I thought would have been the main target of several WAFL clubs. Surely the bloke can be involved in the juniors coaching set up and still play WAFL footy. I must be misreading the enormity of his new job.

Great news, Mayne hasn’t ruled out pulling the boots on “for the mighty redlegs”. He’s just been appointed Director of Football at Trinity College  but if he can see see a way to juggle training and playing with his other new off field roles he’ll let Mossy know he’s ready to play.

I remember him saying when he announced his retirement from AFL football he wanted to continue playing at some level if his body allows it. I always felt pretty confident he’d pull the boots on for the red and black, he just loves playing footy. Great for the WAFL too to always get these guys giving something back where it all started after carving out a great AFL career.
