I don’t think so SS all these cases are linked to the Holiday Inn which looks like it should be bulldozed by the way and the other positive cases are close contacts unless that’s changed. I think they are managing it and that should be the approach here in future, don’t hit the panic button straight away, use contact tracing to inform any close contacts and tell them they must self isolate for 14 days and get tested 3 times, even one maybe 3 days after the 14 day period is over.

Far better to shut down 50 people than 2 million.

So Victoria has or is going into a 5 day lockdown. It seems that the informed advice that is being used for such decisions suggests that this a the optimal process for constraining outbreaks. The Vic one is a whole of state (just heard it so ..... ) whereas ours was the Perth, Peel and SW which I suppose is abt the same geographical spread as Vic.

The interesting thing for me is the rationale behind the period of lockdown which has not published (as far as I am aware), the issue of tracking being compressed with the UK and SA virus and one statement that if we (Dan the man saying it) do not do this we will be in lockdown til' everyone is vaccinated which is a bit scary.

Seems like WA, Vic, SA and Qld are following the same playbook and advice which I am sure folk will make of it as they are want to do!

Lets hope the Vic government hasn't left it too late and they end up with a long shutdown like their second wave. I have rellies over there so fingers crossed, the 5 days does the job.

seems like they have ignored your advice and gone the lockdown, when are they going to learn that their experts are just not that good!

Yes the cluster has expanded to include the Tullamarine T4 terminal but still the health advice is easing. Anyone who’s been through terminal 4 only need to isolate until their first negative test.

Also McGoo has put up a hard border with Victoria only for the next 72 hours. Previously he went hard until they achieve 28 days straight of no new positive community cases before he would open the border.

Covid Dan has put Victoria back into a high risk of a major outbreak by not acting earlier. That being said, WA did dodge a bullet as the infected worker seems not to be a spreader unlike the 2 Vicco hotel workers. The big worry for them is the airport cafe worker.

And the worrying thing is the hotel workers in the Holiday Inn were wearing masks so it seems you don't have to inhale this variant of the virus. Vaccines are clearly going to be the key to get life back to some sort of normal.

DD the problem with using hotels for Covid iso is that the corridors are not ventilated, so as soon as a door is opened the virus gets into the corridor and has no where to go and in that situation the mask isn't going to prevent anything, plus someone was using a vaporiser so made things worse still. The isolation of incoming travellers is the federal governments responsibility and travellers should be housed in fedral facilities like the refugee camps which are more than comfortable, mostly in isolated locations and are far easier to control, ideally Christmas Island should be the go to facility. but yes the vaccine is the key in the long run.
