Southerner, the proposal is for the comp to be a copied WA version of the TAC Cup. Probably 4 or maybe 6 teams. I didn't mean that WA clubs would be joining the Vic TAC Cup.

The current funding that goes into colts footy would go into the revamped WA TAC Cup style comp. And of course those clubs would get the draft money as well instead of the WAFL clubs.

I'm guessing that the old colts comp would only survive underneath for 3 or 4 years, despite initial assurances that it will be safe

But the people proposing this are avoiding the real issue.

That is, the numbers of kids playing the game in WA is very low.

It used to be that junior clubs had trouble fielding 17's teams, then they had trouble fielding 13's to 17's teams and now some are having trouble fielding any sides at all.

More junior clubs have folded in the last 15 years than have been created.

There are now vast areas of Perth without any junior teams at all. A kid would have to walk or ride 5 or 6 kms in some cases to get to training.

The powers that be will tell everyone that the numbers are healthy due to the increase in girls playing but how does that help boys footy.

Exactly right, participation rates are collapsing, yet the WAFC keep telling us they are up???

Right so now it would involve Governments because we're talking kids in school - and I'd be bloody doubtful if there'd be 6 teams chock full of elite anyway

Pretty screwed up idea , lots of issues with it

Of course it is a terrible idea but we always copy what the vics do.

It will eventually kill off the WAFL clubs because it will be very tough to encourage kids who don't get drafted from this 'elite' comp to join a WAFL club afterwards. The assimilation will be lost. Not to mention the lost draft money. How will that affect some WAFL clubs? Also, the few new fans the WAFL creates are largely those that are friends and relatives of colts players and the players themselves - albeit usually only for a short while by not always

All they needed to do was balance out the zones slightly and concentrate on re-establishing junior footy at the year 8 to year 12 level. The draft picks from WA would go up far more that way and without any damage being done to the WAFL.

But from I understand, the new proposal has the support and backing of the AFL and people like Kevin Sheehan so I'm guessing that unless there is a dramatic change of mind, it will be up and running by 2018 or 2019 at the latest.

And apparently the WAFL reserves comp has now been rebranded as the development league.

Just like the VFL reserves was rebranded some years ago. Same name....same everything

The weirdest part is that if you complain about these proposals like I have, you'll be told that as WAFL fans you/I are putting our own selfish needs ahead of the greater good of WA football.

Yet apparently the people and administrators who make a living from footy have the best interests of the game at heart

How are you going to explain this concept to a set of parents who have just & have been forking out an obscene amount of Private School fees for their lad to have the sporting privileges bestowed etc that they will now be elsewhere because there's another whatever it is?
Expect fees to drop rapidly I suppose that's a plus
So the Schools program is now history , no need for scholarships ?
Anyone thought of this reality or?

PSA football isn't affected mate.

It's basically the current colts comp which WAFL clubs run and have a big say in being replaced by a colts competition where WAFL clubs have no say in

Mate my apologies I'm getting in between your posts

The VFL still exists it is trading under the name AFL , the old VFA traded as the VFL until it was as you say rebranded to AFLVictoria

It's why the supposed AFL is still based in Victoria & not in say the ACT run by impartial govern

But yes Victoria does want the WAFL to be AFLWA - likewise SANFL to AFLSA

I'd say there will be affected groups - what happens to the scraps no-one wants , what happens with them ?
No this all sounds like two AFL clubs now wanting a colts side each , based at their shiny new wankerdomes mate
