I think the issue is that the WAFL is no longer a high profile competition in the state and therefore unable to capture the younger audience who gravitate towards the AFL. As Singha said when we were at school everybody had their own WAFL jumper.

Mike then if that is the case why has he taken offence to what I posted?
One thing virtually all of us have in common on this site is our love of the WAFL and our particular WAFL club I would have thought, although I do know of some that completely walked away to follow one of the 2 wa based franchises in the expanded vfl comp (and to me they are flogs for completely abandoning their local WAFL club).
I did repeat if you walked away from your WAFL club and the WAFL back then you are not a true WAFL supporter, if he hasnt then what is his actual problem or concern?

Don't worry too much mate hahaha - sometimes it pays to actually read what is written
oh hang on that's just a little bit too hard isn't it :)

Another modern day Aristotle.....

too hard to read properly isn't it ?

So Zac to SF is the goss....not surprised at the choices on hand for the guy TBH...SF are a sensible choice, guaranteed finals, have Higgins to share the load, perhaps even allowing Zac to play that Dela role at Subi...ruck/mobile forward and increase his game longevity...plus Zac is familiar with Freo Oval after his years at Freo.....Yep sensible choice TBH

SS,

The SANFL bosses have always stuck to their guns and put the Competition first before the AFL and funded accordingly. The WAFC have been and seem to enjoy being bent over since day dot and it shows. Funnily enough I watched the SANF GF just the other night and it was well attended with thousands of young kids wearing their respective colours. At the end of the day marketing is key and there has been minimal marketing for the WAFL Competition for the last 30 years. Sorry mate but $ubi's dominance or they way they have gone about it has 100% impacted the interest of the comp, can't shy away from that.

That's a good point mate - the SANFL held off their VFL licence as long as they could (Port Adelaide's bid in 1990/91 finally forced their hand) because they saw the damage that the West Coast Druggies did to our league & it's finances
So they put together several safeguards that still exist today - quite obvious ones too

The SANFL was also run by passionate South Aussies who had a deep love for the SANFL & SA interests hence why they didnt commit willy nilly to an extended VFL (which it is all it still is not the national comp many believe) unlike here in WA in 1986 where the WAFL was run by a gang of Vics here pushing the VFL's barrow!

Vicco's will never let that thing be a national comp mate
control and all the networks of funding that goes with it would be lost

Yep spot on mate hence why they will continue to pump money into money pit clubs like North Melbourne, Melbourne, Footscray, St Kilda etc to keep them alive and thus continue to have 10 Vic clubs to 8 from the other states so the Vics can always have the balance of power in numbers!

Mate everything has always been Vic-centric they've even tied up finals for 50+ years in Melbo regardless of ladder position and a club's state of origin
It's based in Vicco , run in Vicco by Vicco's & all the coin goes to Viccopretty much says it all doesn't it?
