Shoulder chip...... get over it

Unka2 you can stick up for your Geelong mate as much as you like. However, the facts are the facts. Of the 8 clubs' coaches and captains interviewed in the lead-up to the finals last year which club's coach and captain did G Whateley not interview?

OMG no. How bad is that?? Dont care who Whately supports to be honest. I think you represent the section of the WA public, who suffer from what could be called short mans syndrome. Ohh and just to put the shoe on the other foot, i remember when ted Whitten passed away, and ALL other teams played in a black arm band as a mark of respect, alas not the Eags, cos Guy Mc kenna said he wasnt a legend in WA football.

When Toddy, J.Sheedy or Steve Marsh etc pass do you think Vic clubs will wear black arm bands for him??? No they wont

Well i will put it simply for you.... reckon ALL footy fans had heard of Whitten, reckon about 20% ( max ) would have heard of the people you mentioned, maybe Todd more cos he coached a team in the PREMIER competition in Australia. As i say 80% plus of people knew VFL, that leaves 20% who had a GOOD knowledge of wa/sa footy. Bit like all business its the 80/20 principal.

What a joke Unka2: e.g. Toddy coached over 700 senior games of footy; won the Sandover Medal at 17 and coached Souths at the age of 21 (Oos or A/man can correct me if that wasn't the correct age).

Whateley embarrassed himself by his lack of professionalism by not interviewing Lyon and Pavlich last year.

The VFL Legend status in the AFL Hall of Fame is also a disgrace.

Unka2 perhaps you can also explain why when Fitzroy folded Freo spent THEIR money giving them a decent send-off in their last game. How much did the VFL/AFL spend on same? Answer, $1 less than $1. Nothing.

Having said that,so do many including Toddy,Jack Sheedy and Steve Marsh, amongst many others.

They deserve a State Funeral when it's time, but that can wait quite awhile.

Whitten was a prime mover in State Football, so should of be recognised for that.

There was a lot of narrow minded parochial BS in those days that may have ended up with the lack of WA respect.

You have harped on this nonsense before about the so called dramatic send off FFC were given by the dockers, what did they do, line up and clap them off, it was just a coincidence they happened to play their final game v the dockers, there is nothing at all to say any other club would not have done the same thing...

besides its not like the VFL/AFL didn't spend a mint propping them up for years and then helped them in their merger with the lions and sent them on their way to a 3 peat,,,quite frankly who cares what the dockers did that day.

You should research before you write Baz, how can it be deemed a Merge if Fitzroy flags are not recognised, it was a Takeover 7 or so players & a couple of Board Members. Also BL Wooden Spooned prior to getting Leigh Matthews and charging up for 3 flags, which only one of those initial players, Chris Johnson was a part of the Premierships. More the case of a club getting their shit together, which they have not done the past few years.

Kirbs I am not to sure what research you are doing but perhaps the change of name from Bears to LIONS , the new jumpers the fact they have FFC on their jumpers and the number of Fitzroy players that went over Lynch etc might give you half a clue, don't forget Fitzroy great kevin Murray endorsed the move and was at the mcg encouraging Fitzroy people to get on board when they won the first GF as the Bris Lions, not only that but they went straight back to Brunswick St oval and celebrated with a huge turnout of Fitzroy people...

its a merger of two clubs to difficult to include all the prior flags..

Unlike South Melbourne who just relocated so keep their full history.

the fact is the AFL pumped millions into the project to keep the Lions name at least going to some extent.

There you go - no research, Lynch had already left Fitzroy (deserted the ship) 2 years prior to your so called Merge. My point was the AFL did not give them 3 Premierships on a plate, they struggled early on after the "merge" , wooden spoon in fact before the 3 peat where they beat very good sides in Essendon & Collingwood ( well they were in 1 of the 2 GF'S).

Point is so easy to use throw away lines when these Clubs in non AFL states win a flag, by saying AFL gifted, these players would have worked their guts out, and go back and look at history 3 peats very rare. As I said before Chris Johnson the only one from the "merge" that played in those GF'S, Lynch already there, Pike traded in from NM who got him when Fitzroy folded in 96.

Did you research the fact that the AFL agreed to write off the accumulated debts of Fitzroy and the Bears as part of the merger agreement,?? did you research the fact that Fitzroy were only able to finish off their final season in the comp with the Debt Guarantee issued by the AFL so they could pay players and not fold mid season unable to pay $1.25 Million ???

What about the guaranteed 8 Fitzroy players that had to go Brisbane as part of the deal, and what about the 3 Fitzroy Reps that had to be on the new board of the Brisbane Lions???

Where did I say the players never worked hard,?? but if you honestly think the Brisbane Lions project would of ever of even got off the ground with the dire state the Bears and Lions were in on and off the field without huge help from the AFL your deluded...
