What a disgrace and a farce the AFL Hall of Fame. Whilst I state unequivocally that Maurice R should have been in the Hall of Fame previously, apparently he came from the ether to play for Richmond.

Also, apparently there was no video of the over 100 games he played for South Freo. In fact, South Fremantle was so hard to say that G Whateley didn't even try to mention that great club. Nor apparently was he aware of how big a name it is down Freo way.

One can only hope that now that B Cable is on the selection panel the likes of Bill Walker will be afforded the status of LEGEND at next year's induction. If he isn't then it once again confirms that it is the VFL Hall of Fame.

Also, congratulations to Ray Sorrell as well. Perhaps G Whateley should have let the likes of D Commetti to interview him. D Commetti would have been able to speak on an informed and East Freo supporter basis rather than the pathetic attempt by G Whateley who looked out of his depth and completely uniinformed in the interview.

Well said mate. Why don't you contact GW @ 360 and educate the bloke... Agree with your comments it's a disgrace his SF career didn't rate a mention. My understanding is Maurice played his best footy here during the halcyon period of WAFL footy. The real significance to GW might be lost and he needs to understand there most likely would not be an AFL if WAFL footy did not have the likes of Maurice playing in that era. He was already a bonafide LEGEND before he crossed the bloody Nullarbor.. Shite, I was a one eyed black & white 7yo kid at the time and I understood that.

42 I agree in regards to the Victorian biased media the previous Australian Football Hall Of Fame host Tim Lane was just as bad if not worse who believed the WAFL & SANFL were VASTLY inferior competitions even in the halcyon days ...and all sight unseen too of course!
Was great to see Maurice's son Gavin & nephew Dean turn the direction of the interview on the right path by speaking glowingly of the WAFL & SFFC and the MAJOR impact it had on the late Maurice Rioli's career.
Congratulations to Old Easts Ray Sorrell who like Maurice is a long overdue recognition and the other inductees like former Claremont coach Verdun Howell, also SA legend Paul Bagshaw, Hart & Lappin.

As a Bombers supporter I've found it quite amusing that GW has been so silent on 360 in condemning Moody and associates...he was happy to go for the jugular with Hird but when his own idols are under question he refuses to look in the mirror. GW strikes me as the type that would have invested $20 on Black Caviar at 1.05 just to win a dollar and probably explains his adulation of a neddy No positive tests for the champ with testing methods at the time but one can only wonder with the form of his trainer if that would be the case today.

Surely those "highly efficient" Australian racing stewards would have swabbed the unbeaten mare over her whole career and kept those swabs for further analysis or future reference down the track for any abnormalities that may appear as usually the savvy trainers are a couple of years ahead of the game if you catch my drift DW!
Back onto GW he reminds me a lot of ozfootys own BC with his conflicted hypocritical stances like blacklisting one club over an "apparent" assault whilst condoning one of his very own clubs supporters quite sickening bashing of an opposition supporter in front of a horrified crowd of people!!

much like I hope the Bombers players were duped by Dank becuz that would at least continue my faith in the team I support. At this stage in still giving the players the benefit of the doubt as I refuse to believe a team of footballers at the elite level would come together and deliberately cheat. Surely one would have broke ranks by now if that was the case. Same with Hird I do not believe it was intention to cheat but to improve as much as possible within the boundaries. My support towards the AFL club I have barracked for since I was a kid is very fragile atm. I do however feel that those most to blame, the ones that completely failed in their duties were the first to go at the club. I'd also like to hope the mare hasn't been duped out of her racing legacy. If so racing may never be the same in this country. All sports need heroes to survive and prosper. Maybe you would be more informed BH to comment if indeed the mare has a black cloud lingering over her career now as I'm far removed from the racing world. Actually, according to Richmond people, they had to pay the great man that much to get him to play, that in some ways, Rioli's legacy hurt the club. The other stars in the club, such as Raines, hated being paid less and not playing in the centre and let everybody know. The split, together with the controversy surrounding Francis Bourke as coach, saw the club slide very quickly.

Disappointing SFFC was not mentioned and also St Marys and his connection via a certain SF official at them time that got the ball rolling.

I am not using this an excuse for ignorance ...BUT the VFL was the premier comp in those days, meaning that be it right or wrong "most" footy followers in Vic and even in WA and SA followed the VFL to some extent ( winners etc shown here i believe), at no stage did Vics have any exposure to the WAFL as such. It was only when WA players went to the VFL that they were noticed. Players "normally" gravitate to what is considered the elite of the comp, and be it right or wrong thats what the VFL was.
Probably a bad comparison, but years and years ago when the Perth cup was challenging the Melb cup for prizemoney, it created a bit of a stir. People always rembered the Melb cup winner, cos it was considered the "ultimate" 2 mile event in Aus

I do know however, that Vics are a bit similar to the septics - not really interested in anything outside their own patch.
