Facts are facts or did you think you could just gloss over it? Glad I can say my club has never danced with the devil, means more than successful seasons that are tainted

Problem is your mob haven't had to many of those, and no one wanted to hang out at bassendean anyway.

Claremont had a deal going with the WCE, Subi have their quids, then there was EP , you can moan about anything I guess. But yeah facts are facts and our factual figures are a lot better than your mobs.

Bazza I can't quite recall which year it was but I am sure you will be able to remember (and apologies to Southerner and oos) that Malcolm Brown required the South's players to train at half-time of the league match Souths versus Swans?

Hardly surprising the Ozfooty troll missed the whole point of the exercise of this thread topic which was to show up the total inequality of WAFL footy by club since the day the Dodos arrived on the scene in 87 ...it certainly wasn't to beat ones chest over being the 4th or 5th best performed side :woohoo: over that time which was mainly boosted by being the Dorks Dags for a few years!

ArkRoyal wrote: Swan: How many flags did Subi win between 1989 and 2004? They were non-competitive in that decade pure and simple. How many Subiaco players did SD recruit in 1983?

The good thing about it was that I got to see two former Subi players appear in the finals for the time.

You might also remember, Swan 42, that SD also signed two Perth players in the same era, despite being premiers and the PFC being a lowly side

The job of SD then was to win the flag and they won it.

Hey Ark yes Swans did pick up Mick Johns mid season from you guys back in 83.
At the time he was playing Reserves footy for you guys as Keene, Scott, McFaull and even Putt were ahead of him in the ruck que at Subiaco.
Todd brought him in as cover for a young & raw Sartori as Boucher was having knee issues and Sidebottom had gone East.
And just on that last point alone over that early to mid 80s era for SD we lost the calibre of players to the VFL in the likes of Baker, Holden, Richardson, Sartori, Neesham, Beasley, Smith, Kenny, Shine, Rance, Fogarty, P.Narkle, Hoyer, Williams a fair chunk of quality playing talent to lose in a short period of time in anyone's language.
And then at the advent of the Dodos the likes of Holmes, Langsford, Hutton, Caton, Ugle, Cormack et al were added to the casualty list.
Back to Mick Johns tho he was a good pick up for us as was Barry Kimberley from Perth and became great favourites of the Black Duck brethren as they both gave 110% every time they pulled on the Black & White stripes.

BH: good post. There was indeed a big exodus from SD in those days and Toddy did a good job trying to fill the void. I agree with you on Mick Johns, Peter Castles and Vic Melville were also playing ahead of him at times, particularly early in the season.

I remember both he and Kimberley doing well for SD following all of the player losses you mentioned in your post. When did Marshall go across 83-4? There is picture of Marshall in the 'history of Subi', according to the caption, he is playing against SD; only trouble is that, if you look at the picture, he is playing in the number 19, which, of course, was his number at SD.

You have spoken highly of the players brought in to strengthen the club in the late 1970s, and later, to cover the player losses of the early 1980s, whom was your favourite player amongst those whom joined the club in that great era?

I can sympathise with you on all the losses suffered in 1986-87: I think the Lions lost around half a team; and yet, as we know, even as it happened, the powers that be promised to protect local football.
