The good thing about it was that I got to see two former Subi players appear in the finals for the time.

You might also remember, Swan 42, that SD also signed two Perth players in the same era, despite being premiers and the PFC being a lowly side

The job of SD then was to win the flag and they won it.

AR I don't recall a season where we lost only 1 game for the season and by 1 point.

I would also point out that although the crowds plummeted immediately after the introduction of the Eagles it took some time for this to be filtered through in terms of the player quality in the WAFL. Since the turn of the century how many Grand Finals have you competed in and how many have you won? Also, how many wooden spoons have you collected in the same time period?

Nup 1989 was a resurgent year and GF crowd despite terrible weather was almost 40K..bigger than previous years...

went pear shape after that.

I dont recall 89 being anything fantastic by way of crowd numbers compared to pre 87 but for arguments sake if it was the case it was only because the Dodos were abysmal that season winning only 1 game from their first 14 or 15 matches including only kicking 1 goal vs Essendon in the Windy Hill Massacre loss by 25 goals after the euphoria of the 1st year and making the finals in the 2nd season!

1987 336,000 at home and aways 340,000 in 1989
1987 77874 at finals 130,434 in 1989 av final attracted 26,000 in 87 it was 19469.
GF 32340 1989 38198 ( still stands as a post AFL record shit weather as well)

in 1990 the comp slumped to a average attendance of 3437 at H and A from a record post eagles high of 4054 in 1989. In 87 it was 4004.

There was a final replay in 1989 WP v EF , played as a double header which attracted over 30,000 that day so even splitting the difference of 15,000 still leaves the 1987 finals figures for dead, ( albeit having been there that day the crowd for the SF v C final would of been over 15k anyway.)

We have a better WL record than 6 other clubs just C and S beat us, we have played in 8 GF's More than 5 clubs and equal to 1, won 3 (should be more I guess)
Basically we are the third most successful club outside of the two giants C and S...
