Seriously , I went back in memory and came up with the 4 best atmospheres at games I attended & they are:

1. 1979 GF - EF v SF
2. 1980 GF - SD v SF
3. 1979 regular season derby game at Freo Oval (23000 odd peeps attended)
4. 1979 regular season Perth derby (21 or 22000 odd peeps attended - went with an uncle who supported EP at that time)

All of those games had the real WAFL diehards out in force

Southerner since you brought up my first GF in 1980 perhaps I can ask if you were on the Steve M train to Basso?

Also, another memorable match was the Swans West Perth game at Basso with around 22,000 people.

I was on that train

The biggest and best build up to any game ever was the 1979 gf

Everything these days is just tiddly winks compared to that.

In Basso there's been 84 assaults, 113 burgs and 28 m/v thefts. In leederville, the home of the mighty Lions there's been 26 assaults, 11 burgs and 9 m/v thefts. it's not rocket science to work out that I'd be 3 times more likely to be assaulted, 10 times to have my home broken into and 3 times more likely to have my car knocked off if i went to bogandean than leederville....

LMAO,,,classic...dont forget Leederville is a Nightlife Area as well, quite good stats for the area, all thing considered, as for Midland Bassendean, well Im glad I live a drop punt from Cott Beach.

haha...yep and half of the assault incidents in leederville were Subi players giving it to the jerkers.... :P

True - and as reliable gutless assault types it was done by surprise and from dark corners - that's where the subi heart is - in the dark!! oh and dont forget the boot when there down - such high standards set by that thuggery club!!

Gee mate, if theres one term that comes to mind when I think Subi fc , thuggery would be bottom of the list, boring and quiet more likely.

Yeah I was '42 - we had to get to the station pretty early in Fremantle that day just to get onto the platform

I have to say that the Bassendean crowd were very humble & paid respect in their recognition of TI that game from memory

Big Ron Boucher made a point of shaking TI's hand after the game as did most of the Swans boys

Those were the days Southerner. Alas, we will never get them back. However, if the WAFC actually started making decisions which were beneficial to the WAFC competition rather than detrimental ones we could slowly build up the supporter base for the WAFL.

Southerner if we make the finals this season will you be an honorary Swan for the finals?
