In leederville, the home of the mighty Lions there's been 26 assaults, 11 burgs and 9 m/v thefts. it's not rocket science to work out that I'd be 3 times more likely to be assaulted, 10 times to have my home broken into and 3 times more likely to have my car knocked off if i went to bogandean than leederville....

BC please explain how going to Basso rather than Leederville increases your chances of your home being burgled? Could it be a non sequitur or do you often use hyperbole to try to make a point which can't be substantiated through facts?

its just an indicative fact 42...the others as you well know are very relative...here's the link

anything to say now 42? is what i posted supported by facts or not? i'll consider your apology when i get it.

Carefull LB you might disturb the fanatical backslapping circle jerk that's going on in the Swans thread!! Plus they will quickly point out it's the swans travelling supporters that flood other teams home games that create those numbers.

That 'Circle Jerk' as you call it SS was actually triggered by an ABC commentator who is actually a Claremont supporter who stated that his trip to Bassendean Oval was the highlight of his sports broadcasting career. Hardly a biased backslapper now eh? You can hide behind numbers all you want but you can't quantify passion and that's what Swans fans have in bucket loads.

Every club has passion , SDFC certainly dont have a mortgage on that, one club that amazes me is Perth 30 odd years of failure yet they have the busiest thread on this board.

I beg to differ. I doubt if you would have seen scenes anything like what happened at Bassendean on Saturday at any other WAFL ground, with the possible exception of West Perth.

Mik, if you happened to have been alive when Subi broke it's 49 year premiership drought like I was back in '73, you would have seen passion and emotion beyond description and only understood by those passionate Subi people who endured decades of mediocrity on and off the field, so please take the blinkers off and recognize that football does exist beyond the boundary fences of Bassendean oval.

SS that was 40 years ago and WAFL footy was worlds apart from what it is now. I am not suggesting Swans fans have a mortgage on passion and every club has its passionate supporters in different forms. I was merely replying to your 'circle jerk' comment to say that the discussion since the weekend about Swans fans were sparked by a Claremont supporter making an observation about how great the atmosphere was there. If you want to get all defensive and precious about it, your choice.

Thanks Mikeh, unlike some, at least you are one of the reasonable ones who is prepared to acknowledge that passionate supporters are something that all clubs have.

Mate , thats bugger all when it comes to passion, freo derby rivalry is true wafl passion and puts paid to anything Swans can muster, I have been to derbies were the atmosphere is PUMPED with passion, I think your just a tad bias in your assesment. SDFC is no big deal, I mean look at the bitterness between WP and EP. SD problem is they have never really had an intense cross town rival and came into the comp late so the history is not really there. As for passsion and commitment as I say you cant go past the poor Sods at Perth, they still keep it burning. But I guess its better to bank on the swans myth using passion as a measure becuase unlike crowd numbers which can be measured and swans cannot compete passion is a subjective mythical thing that suits the swans narrative.

crowd numbers are a myth also..
one off games and free ticket give-aways always bloat numbers..
you take out the highest and lowest games for each team and then do the average from that...
Swans and WP have actually tapped into the community club aspect of WAFL, something which is pretty hard for EP,Subi and South to do as their area is not close to their ground anymore..
the Dockers coming in has hurt SF and EF and Cl is an old area..
unless you have money in the WAFL you need to rely on your local community support which SD and WP have marketed themselves towards..
was good to see kids from both clubs still kicking the footy on the ground 30 mins after the game last week.
hats off to anyone form any club that goes to wafl games and its great to see kids at the footy with WAFL jumpers, their parents are doing a great job !

Yeah what's the story with the WP British day - is that a free give away?

Also there are junior days.

Derby days are not free give aways, and are three a year. So hardly a myth, does it really matter when they come through the gate, as long as they are there. Problem is SD keeps saying they are there , but they are not.

What in 1979 ..I attended 2 of those Freo derbys this year with their supposed massive rivalry and at the last one their was barely 1000 people there and it was as quiet as a $ubi vs Claremont match!
Not even in the same stratosphere as the scenes at Bassendean on Saturday but what would a bent ex copper know!

the last Freo derby had a crowd of 1436.
wasnt on a Monday so looks like when its not on a special day it attracts hardly any people ?
proof of the pudding is in the eating there.

MO thankfully they included the Colts attendees in that figure as there would not have been 1000 for the League match ...and that is for a supposedly intense rivalry according to S&S!
