and neither should WP give up their ch9 sponsorship tfs...although it wouldn't surprise me if we don't see a lot of WP games this year as a result. or as a compromise, tape is placed over the ch9 logo when your games are televised.

Well it's obvious there will be an issue at Joondy coz if I remember correctly there are hoardings & signage around the ground with a big 9 plastered all over them
To be fair it's a bit rough expecting that to be removed say during the Perth Derby up there & letting the "AFL reserves" keep theirs on that jumper , it's like rubbing it in the Cardies faces a touch for mine

Hopefully a financial compromise is given to the Cardies - that's only fair & right

You are kidding right? How much advertising revenue did they get back in the last 15 years?

You're just upset that as a West Perth supporter your sponsor wasn't picked to be the broadcaster. Move on and stop your continual complaining.

Astro what cave have you been living in?

Fair dinkum mate anyone can work out that sponsors will gravitate to clubs if they can get their names on Jumpers, Oval Add Hoardings, and esposed on Commercial TV shit - in a lead up to an AFL game you would have 100,000 viewers that will flow directly into the clubs. Did you know that the ABC live broadcasts were down to less than 20,000 viewers.

From todays West

Falcons in flurry over TV jumper issue
Dale Miller
January 29, 2015, 7:40 am
A stoush is brewing between West Perth and the WA Football Commission over the league's new broadcast deal, with the WAFL club warning it will not remove the logo of major sponsor Channel 9 from team jumpers for televised matches.
The WAFL's new broadcaster Channel 7 is expected to block the insignia of any rival networks from appearing on game telecasts as part of the three-year deal announced by WA football chiefs on Saturday.
Eighteen WAFL home-and-away matches plus finals will be shown on the free-to-air network in 2015 under the $1-million-a-year agreement that has saved the State league from losing its television exposure.
However, Channel 7's unofficial stance of not promoting other networks as part of its coverage has put the WAFC on a collision course with West Perth officials, who are concerned at the threat posed to the club's most lucrative sponsorship deal.
The Falcons are entering the second year of a three-year deal with Channel 9, whose logo featured on the front of West Perth's jumper in all games except Foxtel Cup matches last season.
West Perth president Brett Raponi said Channel 9 was the club's biggest sponsor.
He said the club would have posted a financial loss in 2014 if not for the agreement.
The Falcons recorded a modest $2300 profit last year, 12 months on from posting an annual loss of almost $290,000.
"We have a deal in place with Channel 9," Raponi said.
"The commission is aware of it and we expect the commission to have taken that into account in negotiations with Seven."
The club wrote to the WAFC earlier this year warning the club's agreement with Channel 9 needed to be taken into account with broadcast negotiations.
Raponi will meet WAFC chief operating officer Nick Sautner tomorrow to discuss the conflict.
Sautner said he would like to think that common sense would prevail.
He said the WAFC had not considered financially compensating West Perth for having to remove Channel 9's logo from jumpers for broadcast matches.
"From a commission perspective, we don't see one club being bigger than the competition," Sautner said.

Seems that once again the WAFL after having communication from WP regards the sponsors logo and possible conflict with another media teliviser have ignored the issue and it now apparently becomes "common sense will prevail" then followed up by a slap in the face comment "we dont see one club bigger than the competition" .....

What a bunch of elitist wankers - I for one am looking forward to the outcome, Bretts reply, WPths reaction generally and the look of the Eagles reserves jumpers with a black piece of masking tape across it .... yeah right??

Channel 9 must be smiling - all this free advertising with their logo and name attached hahaha

All I know is that Perth were only on tv twice last season, and that will be 2 more times than this season.

West perth should wear a big white cross or something simlar to the no smokng sign graphic over the advertising on their jumper for TV games..will attract more attention than the 9 logo itself and give the media something to talk about further exposing 9's sponsorship...use it to their advantage in other words.

The logo should stay on unless there is financial compensation, all the other clubs should support WP on the issue. Keep in mind that this could happen to any one of the clubs in the future too.

Bloody hell! I would have thought there are bigger issues out there that this! Surely? I can think of half a dozen BIG issues that need attention without even thinking about it. And now this silliness fills up the news. Why is the useless commission making a big issue from nothing!?
They obviously have nothing better to do!
Just BAN ALL advertising on football jumpers, and be done with it!

Well if push comes to shove the answer is simple, Channel 7 simply don't broadcast WP games ..

The sponsorship deal with Channel 9 was finalised two years ago. Channel seven have no right to tell any of the clubs who the they advertise on their jumpers. I know they will have a permanent camera on the scoreboard so the Channel nine logo will not be in vision. If I was Channel nine I would have their logo painted on the field with logos on the goal posts if games are televised from Joondalup. I brought this issue up when the Channel seven deal was first brought up so why now is seven bitchin. At the AGM the members we told in uncertain terms that the Channel nine logo will stay and so it should. I wonder how Baz and big Den feel about this issue.
