Yeah nothing will change. But it could have been quite exciting if the colts comp stayed an 18's comp.

But that would mean the poor AFL clubs/scouts would have to watch ressies and league as well as colts and gosh we couldn't put them through that. :pinch:

It's probably best explained like this.

Levi Ridley made his colts debut in his 16th year in round 9, 2013 and a year later in round 8, 2014 made his reserves debut.

Under the new proposal he would just be starting his colts career now in his 17th year.

my understanding is recruiters like the kids pushing up to league and reserves when they are able as its helps to preapare them to play against men.

not really - if he isnt picked for the state 18's which he wasnt this year and his club considers him a chance for league footy which he is at Swans then he goes up the grades..

Well, I think it can only help their development playing against men.

But alas...

The fact that WAFL clubs have to get "permission" and fill out paper work to get a kid to play league before the 18's squad is selected is a bit of a giveaway about how things actually work nowadays.

You don't seem to understand.

Levi wouldn't have made his colts debut in his 16th year under the new proposal.

He wouldn't be allowed to.

thats cos we live in a nanny state and everyone wants to control things, but i dont see a problem at Swans - our kids always get a chance at senior footy when the club thinks they are ready and I havnt seen too many dramas in recent years..

I do understand - as yet we dont know the exact rules and regulations and there are exceptions now which is why as a 17 year old he can play reserves so we dont know whether exceptions will be made to let 16 year olds play colts if they are ready.

I agree.

All I'm saying is to people here. Don't expect to get an extra year out of your homegrown player.

He will be entering the system a year later.

I guess the year 12 comps around the metro area will get a boost in numbers if nothing else.
