It seems that two of the Swans directors have an idea to change the WAFL and one of them is to change the name to AFL WA.

Now I know I will be corrected by those who know more but was not this a point of much angst amongst many and in particular some well published swans supporters, mmmm.

It seems to me that change is coming and we ALL need to embrace it with some tweaking here and there.

I will look forward to the at times bitter discussion on this topic and look to see who has the foresight and who has the hindsight.
We live in a time where intelligent people are being silenced so stupid people won't be offended

As a Swans and WAFL supporter I would be disgusted if they changed the name to AFL WA. Protecting the integrity of the WAFL is of paramount importance, particularly now that their are two AFL aligned teams in the competition.

It is no surprise that is says the directors' plan was devised without prior knowledge of Swan Districts. It appears Dawson seems to be acting in the best of interest of the AFL aligned clubs, one of which his brother coaches.

I can not speak for all of the Swans supporters on here (I look forward to the responses of mikeh, swan42 and Swandog) but I can say that I hope the opposition clubs (and our club) fight this part of the proposal but look at all other aspects of the plan, hopefully there are some good ideas amongst it.

absolutely 100 per cent in agreement with the plans put forward by the two SDFC people and others on today's west, they have identified all the issues I and a few others pointed out on this site, in relation to the current terminal decline of the WAFL seems that the dreamers numpties and head in the sand people who can't accept this are thankfully about to be swept aside.

there are some classic numpties on this site who quite frankly have no idea at all about the bad condition the WAFL is in and it's serious problems going forward,

Just read the article and cannot believe it. Shocked would be a better word
You cant be serious Bazza.
Your clubs finances are BAD and if it kept going you would have to make huge changes or go into receivership.

I am surprised that the Swans Director is involved as I have great admiration for SD who have taken the bit by the teeth and have certainly done a lot to improved their club through promotions to get more people to the game and it was certainy working.

I am suspicious that his might be a hype up and nothing will come of it :(

E.g extract from article.. below

The strategic plan - Saving the WAFL: A Way Forward - was devised by Swan Districts directors Howard Dawson and Paul Douglas without the prior knowledge of their club and painted a dire picture of the future for the competition unless it was overhauled and significant financial model changes were made in WA football's structure.

The Title of this post is misleading just saying it is the Swans plan :(

Lets hope none of this goes ahead and I am sure many agree.

Why are you shocked cardy? What is it you are so outraged about the plan,,,I am quite surprised you of all people can't come to grips with the changes that need to be made and will be made for long term sustainability of the local comp.

It has already been said Bazza... Lots of topics if you want to rehash so why go over old ground AGAIN read the topics? Now re this latest it wont happen the WAFC for a start will not give up the licences as it will be the end of them and the State league will come under AFL control :(

Have a good weekend :)

Interesting article......a plan devised by two WAFL directors WITHOUT their clubs input , NOT ENDORSED by the council of Presidents  and delivered to the WAFC under STRICT CONFIDENTIALITY  and here it is on the back page of the WEST  . I wonder what input WCE or FREO had B)
Ive got an idea.....how about simply divide the 9 clubs in half, four go to WCE to do with them what they like and four go to FREO ( they can have PEEL as an extra no cost bonus )WCE and FREO pay for everything at their four clubs so no need for the WAFC to exist. result.......WAFL DEAD but at least it will be final.

Now seriously:
Point one; Change the name to AFL WA???? are you serious?? NO WAY It is the WAFL and should remain so regardless of how the competition is structured.

Point two; Sell the WCE and FREO licenses to the AFL. Again...ARE THESE GUYS SERIOUS!!! Look what influence the two AFL teams have on our comp now. Do this and all WAFL clubs may as well join the ammos.

Point three; Reducing the size of the WAFC to reduce costs, shared resources with the AFL. Makes good business sense. Happy with this scenario but still need the WAFC to oversee the WAFL.

Point four; Increased commitment from the AFL to support it's breeding ground is also a good point. What does the AFL contribute to WAFL now?? All I have ever heard is about WCE and FREO royalties. Someone might know......do the AFL contribute financially to the WAFL??

Point five; Subiaco Oval redevelopment, don't know anything about this but if the new stadium is going to be the HOME of the WAFL along with WCE and FREO then fine. Somehow I don't see the WAFL ever playing at the new ground. If Subiaco goes where will the WAFL Grand Final be held? Just saying.......

The AFL WA GF will be at Leederville.

Some good solid recommendations here, Only does not go far enough,,,reduce the number of teams to six, immediate ground rationalisation programme.

Those two directors are bloody fools. Raponi got on front foot on ABC radio this morning and said what was written was a disgrace and he said WP dont agree with name change. Also believes WAFL is going to just get better
