The reality of the situation is that today the game is more about money than sport and the WAFL is no longer a viable competition in its current form. Crowds have dipped further this year and most clubs are struggling to make a profit.

It makes me sad because I grew up in the 70s when the WAFL was going from strength to strength. I hate the idea of changing the name to AFL WA as this obliterates the long standing history of the WAFL and almost makes it a new competition. But what the heck, 2014 was always going to be a change in the world as we know it, because East Perth and Peel signed those alignment agreements.

I would be interested to see the detail of what the two Swans directors have proposed and if it is something that will make the competition more viable then we might just have to consider some changes in the way it is run and promoted.

Things will never be the same again but maybe something can be salvaged from the wreckage.

I don't agree with the so called plan, its a beat up like Cardy said and I don't reckon anyone else will buy it, I will pin Dawson about it if I bump into him at the footy..plus a GF at Leederville?!! You cannot be serious! It the worst surface in the comp and worst it has been in history and East Perth final should be moved from there to Lathlain! If they finish 3rd

Mate I was at Lathlain last week when WP went to Moora and it wasnt much better if not the same. I was relieved there was not league game at Lathlain as it was mostly mud around the interchange on the wings and the goal squares.
Will be interesting to see how Joondalup is tomorrow but should be ok

Swandog, maybe the surface at Leederville is not great but it didn't seem to effect the quality of football played by both sides yesterday. Good footballers can play well on a ok surface.
