Yeah such a pity that the Libs had the foresight to build a world class stadium in Perth that caters for multiple sports and attracts international acts.

The WAFL does need a second-tier venue that can host the GF. The redeveloped WACA is not going to be big enough, Leederville makes the most sense with its capacity and central location. Be great to see Subiaco redeveloped as the home base of WAFL football again.

Yep Tiger we would be better still at the concrete cancer asbestos ridden subi with 40K max.  Never heard of so much tripe in all my life. Everyone has moved on from that basket case,

A second venue is obviously needed, WACA go final approval today , but won't be big enough.

hang on mate - you know damn well it was widely assumed all major football in this state ie: the WAFL included was to play it's big games at the new stadium
there was no information given that we would see Grand Finals at suburban grounds
full stop
we've been dudded

well said Southerner, there is no such thing as a 'multi-purpose sports ground'; not even the MCG pretends otherwise, nor the VFL itself.  In WA, football and cricket should demand compensation from the crown. Nor should they sign anymore long term contracts to play at the ground.

I take it you've  never heard of the boxing day test at the MCG?

Can't remember ever even hearing about the WAFL at Optus, it was all about the AFL playing there, and lets not forget it was the WAFC decision for financial reasons to play at Freo, the late finish last year meant they missed their chance. Its business mate they had commitments to bigger events which is fair enough.

Maybe the Labor party can spend $200m to develop a 20k stadium for the WAFL. Would be a drop in the ocean from the budget surplus billions they’ve racked up.

Labors supposed to look after the little guys aren’t they?

Massive opportunity lost with the pissweak re-dev of the WACA. It could have easily been made as a 25K stadium which would have had all year round use. Should have become WAFL centre of Op's with each weeks TV game staged there and all finals at what would be a neutral venue. Has excellent lights for early and late season night games and is centrally located. The WAFL GF's will rarely attract near 30K, unless it's played post AFL season, maybe a derby GF or an EP/Joondy GF or even a SD v Perth GF but at best, Optus will never be more than half full.

Something needs doing urgently, and questions need asking as to why that has not happened!
Subiaco Oval could have been retained. I've not seen nor been there since it was scrapped. Apparently a sad and sorry site nowadays. One of the existing grounds would be the best option for development and one needs asking how and why that's not happened already. Was my understanding the Wafl finals were to be held at the new stadium. But it quickly became obvious    Burswood not interested hosting Wafl matches! Sadly there is still no real direction from the totally inept so called commission.

Lads, you are at a loss when one is thrown out of a perfectly good lease with no proper compensation. The whole state is still waiting for Barnett to explain himself. How has it helped cricket? All it has done is split the membership. Cricket got off more lightly only because it still has the long lease at the WACA. I do not really take any notice of the big crowds in Melbourne, Boxing day is a stunt by the Victorians. Every other venue fills the first couple of days of an Ashes test.
Try to keep in mind that, before it was built, both sports had something --Subi Oval, WACA, but, most of it has actually gone -- subject to arbitrary policy by the government of the day.

In fairness to the old Barnett - his lowlife common thief son & that horrid creep pervert Buswell who was caught sniffing female staff members chairs in Parliament were both consuming all his carpet space at that time
so the real people of WA just got taken for granted
