This is a disaster not just for South Fremantle but for the credibility of the WAFL as a whole. Certainly not the promotion that the competition needs 3 weeks before the start of the season.
The loss of 8 premiership points will really make it tough for SF to make the finals with them needing to win 13 out of 18 games just to get to 5th.

Agree fully , the loss of points is massive blow in such a short season and a penalty that is ott for mine, playing finals wont be on the radar the way i see it, morale wont be great and one wonders if presidents possie is sustainable. With one club playing under a handicap for the season as you say ordinary promotion wise for the comp.

If I was the club boss I would forfeit the season.

Take those other cheating flogs West Perth with you as well so the rest of us can get on with a fair competition.

No club is fair.  Some get scrutinised more than others.

As others have said here, the loss of premiership points is unprecedented in WAFL history and seems totally out of proportion with the breach as described on the statement. That makes me wonder, given that souths appear to have accepted the sanctions and won't appeal the penalty that there was more going on here than publicly released.

Agreed Mike...it does seem a little over the top based on the description of the infringement.

Mike the WAFC demanded the books when an audit more than two years later found an administrative error in lodgement of payment - there was no deliberate overpayment or evidence of any salary cap breach , the WAFC had to confirm that and have done so
Most of us are stunned at the penalty but also understand the mistake has been made and certain procedures have to be followed
It would also be understandable to get the same penalty as the other clubs previously not a different set like this
