Historically EF zone predominantly produces AFL quality players, unlike Subi and WP zones which consistently produce WAFL quality players....thus the reason why WP and Subi play finals year in and year out....and EF don't.... .yet it always  seems EF zone is in the gun.....5 EF guys went in 2019 draft and most likely 5 again(Williams, Browne, Woewodin, McVee and Warner)  in the 2021 draft.....when was the last time WP or Subi lost that many good youngsters in one draft.....or over a decade of drafts???.....

The likes of Perth want WAFL quality youngsters.....which Subi and WP zones produce by the bucket load......should be WP or Subi zones in the gun before EF......definitely Cl too.....whose  junior zone is so bountiful it produces both AFL and WAFL quality players.......EF haven't played finals since 2014, played in a GF since 2012 and won a GF since 98........WP wouldn't have had  their run of success if the likes of Black, Nelson, Meadows, Manzone, Guadagin etc had of been AFL drafted......imagine EF success if Jackson, Rivers, Sharpe, Ruscoe and Warner had of been available this year....or Cripps x2, Yeo, Sheppard, Kennedy, Hooker etc over the years.....so fark off about cutting into EF zones.....also EF have a lost a bucket load of draft cash since the WAFC stopped the $30-35K reimbursement for each player getting drafted....instead it's split amongst the rest of the comp......to the likes of Subi and WP......

Looks like us coastal clubs are pretty happy with our lot and unlikely to give up much without a fight.   Perth and East Perth will have to recruit better, work their zone harder or smarter (not easy to say the least, a bit of social engineering required) and run their clubs better (not saying they are run badly now but try something new, like more women on the board - a la Richmond, Western bulldogs or Melbourne.) I don't know, keep tinkering, keep experimenting.

Another article about a well known problem with no real solution. Only one club needs to have zone altered and that is Claremont. Subiaco has had some recent success after being a basket case for a long time and now there is a real flow through of players into seniors which is they way it should be and will take away the need for recruiting which seems to be everyones issue. Perth need help to go the same direction.

To compensate Subiaco for losing North Beach, Carine and Sorrento JFC's to the new Joondalup Hawks they can have Marist JFC and Subiaco JFC off the Tigers.

Tigers, Subi, and WP now on level playing fields with the rest.

This would be awesome for the WAFL
Victorians still laugh at West Aussies because of the way we bailed out the vfl and then allowed it to be called it the AFL!

It might be awesome but its also not going to happen. Depth of talent not there and financially would make little sense.

Look it might be a big stretch and would take some organisation but it is doable.

Plenty of talent out there.

Junior teams are asked to send in there top 4 kids per age group to the WAFL development clubs.

There are always 3 or 4 kids that don't get asked that should or 3 or 4 kids who get asked and get dismissed too quickly to be lost to the system.

At least Skilful thinks it would be awesome. If everyone did (Sure WP and Subi and Claremont wont) but if everyone else did it could happen.

Dont forget the Big 3 where the majority of the Claremont juniors play from the age of 12/13-
Scotch College
Hale School
Christ Church Grammar

Then of course there is their country zone(s) which are not too be sneezed at either-

Great Southern (Albany, Mt Barker, Denmark/Walpole, Tambellup etc)
Ongerup (Lake Grace, Gnowangerup, Jerramungup etc)
West Kimberley (Broome, Derby, Looma, Bidyadanga etc)
Central Kimberley (Fitzroy Crossing, Noonkanbah, Yakanarra, Bayulu etc)
East Kimberley (Kununurra, Wyndham, Halls Creek, Ord River, Warmun etc)

Is it any wonder Claremont have barely missed the Colts finals for close to 50 years and won a plethora of flags with these incredible metro and country zones!

People lose their minds over the league and Subiaco having sustained success, but no one says anything about Claremont dominating the talent pathway while other teams enjoy significant time at the bottom, wouldnt getting the talent pathway to some sort of level playing field flow through up the chain?
