I haven’t tried to claim that Claremont is struggling I just find it peculiar that this whole equalisation argument seems to centre on reducing Claremont’s “dominance” of the competition, we even have had Subi supporters discussing how to reduce it. As I pointed out earlier the talent that comes out of East Freos zone is very high - why hasn’t that translated into league success? West Perth have been a very successful league club but very unsuccessful in colts - why is that?

Never said you did TOO, though with that previous comment  you made of "2 flags in 25 years",  you aren't  saying Cl are killing it in the WAFL either,  as most people on here are pointing out....

I openly acknowledge EF and Cl have the best two WAFL  junior zones for AFL drafting..... I just think Cl junior zone depth runs far deeper and thicker then EF zone depth, where Cl zones seem to absorb those AFL draft losses far easier then EF zones has and can.......simply the gap between EF junior best and rest ain't as thick as some people think.....and EF lack of success since 2000 highlight this.....yet some folk think taking a slice out of EF zones is the way forward.....go for it.....but after the best kids from those zones gets snapped up by the AFL, the others in the zone aren't as good as one think.......if they were, then surely EF wouldn't be in a 23 year premiership and 7 year finals drought....

Junior footy is historically noted for the top layer of cream carrying and hiding the deficiencies of the layers beneath.....Cl top layer is thicker then most, Subi's and SF layers need to be sampled more by the AFL I reckon, not sure why they aren't.....and for some reason WP layers taste better when given time to set and left untouched .....EF layers are tastier then most but very thin, ditto for SD layers, whilst EP layers are beginning to taste better now, and Perth's layers are non existent apparently due to having  fark all larder ingredients in the first place.

The cake metaphor almost works. Perhaps EF and Claremont don't bake their cake properly, though.  Subi add some Victorian spices to their mix and have an excellent oven. Chef Wardman is Michelin star material.

JL..glad you like the baking analogy.....,indeed Wardman may be of Michelin quality, like those before him in Schofield, Webb and Watters ...I still scratch my head, even with that  state of the art oven you claim, their baking wasn't  nevet considered  edible at the annual AFL bake off despite all those renowned  E.S spices, very little baking was  taken, always leaving a plentiful baking bounty to return to the Subi larder  to feed  its own.

EF on the other hand,  often had no baking  left over after  the annual AFL bake off  to feed its  own.... ........Cl on the other hand,  with its plethora of ingredients, seem to have a plentiful supply of  baking left over, even after many are taken at the annual AFL bake off.......the rest of the WAFL baking is hit and miss  it seems......

Using your analogy Freezin, is it fair to say it doesn’t matter what ingredients Perth think they do or don’t have, Perth will never bake anything until they work out how to turn the oven on?

Freezin, the proof is in the premierships. We don't bake for the AFl, we bake for the WAFL.

STT must be itching to reply.

Very true JL, pretty sure EF fans would like EF to bake solely for the WAFL too.....but sadly someone has to......not by choice though.....it is what it is....hopefully the wheel will turn one day and Subi will upgrade their baking prowess to AFL standard and EF can down grade their baking prowess to WAFL standard......really not sure how Subi have dodged the AFL drafting drain during their 15 odd years of domination TBH......

Freeze, it looks like Subi may well add some quality ingredients to the AFL pie this draft with 3 current/former colts high on the menu and a couple of "semi matured" types hoping one of the AFL master Chef's show some interest..

Lots of quality posts on this thread identifying the issues and the history, but what is the solution? Do we drag the Subi's, Souths, Claremonts and West Perth's of the comp down to a low enough level so the other clubs can have a chance at a flag, or, create a situation that raises up the strugglers.

I've only seen one solution that I think has a chance of equalising the comp without draconian penalties being used against targeted clubs. Can't recall who posted it but it was around a more detailed points system that increased points allocated to players going to the current successful clubs from lower placed clubs based on ladder positions of the clubs. There was a lot more to it but it was the basis of a workable solution. That plus a reasoned thorough look at the zones, both metro and country.
