Interesting comment BH..South and Claremont are always up there because of there Rolls Royce zones..We all know $ubiaco had bin loads of cash, from the seating arrangement.
.West Perth have kept a core group of senior players for a long time.. But haven't recruited heavily in recent years.Or had standout juniors In there zones.Allways written off pre season the last couple of years. But produce enough wins to make finals every year. And also good at winning tight games of footy. .

I wouldnt describe the SFFC zone as Rolls Royce, Claremont maybe, EFFC has a footy Blue Blood zone yet has faded from history for decades now. South invests hugely in its zones, you only have to look that whenever the country footy games are on its just about always South that gets involved and wants its regions noticed.  That said we have had periods of no finals in the post eagles era.

Perth's issues stem back decades and are a lot more complex than purely zones, one wonders why they voted for Peels entry if zones caused them problems making the pie even smaller.

I do agree that Subi success has a lot to do with financial resourcing.

Well I heard from a prominent Perth benefactor who said an ex WAFC director admitted they deliberately starved Perth of its zones in recent years in the hope we would just fade away. They succeeded handsomely in the first bit but failed miserably on the second. Picked on the wrong club. There needs to be a shake up and as someone said just last week, if Peel opt to take the easy road and extend their alignment with Fremantle then they should be stripped of at least half their zone.

That would enable SF to take back parts of their old zone, EF can get a few off South close to the borders and Perth should pick up Applecross, Mt Pleasant, Rossmoyne and Canningvale. Then I guarantee you will see a much stronger colts and U16’s and a lot more players representing WA from Perth and getting drafted and we won't need to be so reliant on recruiting. Oh, and the league ladder will look different, will see a lot more red and black in it on a regular basis.
Get on your bike.

For mine there has been no change from the previous 10 seasons or so SU, CL, SF & WP the Top 4 standouts yet again, whilst Peelmantle loaded with Dockers like 2016/17 are a threat.
It is all becoming rather tedious to be honest, same ol same old!
BH some homework for you if you feel so inclined.  A comparison of the period 1970 - 1986 and the period 2004 - 2020 in terms of premierships for each club.  I am sure that the results would be very interesting and highly illuminating.

42 I have previously posted on here that between the period of country zoning being introduced in 1969 until the end of the first year of the WCE in 1987 every WAFL club won the Premiership at least twice with WP, EF & SD winning 3 times.
Below is the club with its premiership year and also their GF appearances in brackets for that period-

CL- 1981, 1987 (R/U- 1972, 1982, 1983)
EF- 1974, 1979, 1985 (R/U- 1977, 1984, 1986)
EP- 1972, 1978 (R/U- 1969, 1971, 1976)
PE- 1976, 1977 (R/U- 1970, 1974, 1978)
SF- 1970, 1980 (R/U- 1975, 1979, 1981)
SU- 1973, 1986 (R/U- 1985, 1987)
SD- 1982, 1983, 1984 (R/U- 1980)
WP- 1969, 1971, 1975 (R/U 1973)

It is quite remarkable to see how even it made the WAFL with every team winning at least 2 and no more than 3 flags whilst also every club playing in at least 4 GF's with EF playing in the most with 6.
Of course it all got stuffed around not long after 1987 when the WAFC started stuffing around with the zones and then the introduction of Fremantle & Peel completely stuffed up WAFL footy for good in the mid 1990s!

Quite a significant difference between that period and what has happened in the last 17 years.

This is pretty scandalous if true.

Why would the WAFC want to get rid of Perth footy club DD?  Pretty iconic name for a club and not like they were bringing the game down.  Unlike Peel, they’re needed in the comp.  Just imagine if the pricktorians tried to get rid of Melbourne FC, there would be a rebellion.
