BH: beautifully done; if they refuse to pay for access to Burswood in the future, the WAFL should consider playing all finals at neutral venues. Clubs which do not make the finals should host them.

This, year, for example, Bassendean and Leederville would have been ideal.

two away games to Subi-- in some years
one or two 'neutral games'-- EF played at least one in 85
Just on 85, EF played us four times, winning three because they were a good side. They also visited to play WP and lost narrowly.

1912, 1913, 1915, 1924, 1973, 1986, 1988,

Some of those earlier ones may have been played at Leederville.

Believe it or not Subiaco "only won" 3 Premierships at Subiaco Oval when they were officially based there being in- 1973, 1986 & 1988.
There would have been some residual benefit in 2004 being only their first year based away from Subi at Leederville and possibly for 2006, 07, 08 but all of their earlier flags were won at either Perth Oval (1912, 1915, 1924) or the WACA (1913)!

Also one for WAFL followers to note is that of the 4 GFs that have now taken place at Fremantle Oval all 4 (100%) have been won by the home team playing at their home ground-

EF won in 1904, 1908 & 1910
SF won in 2020

Now that is a ridiculous home ground advantage!

But then again Subi have been utter shit for most of the WAFLs golden era. Melbourne had a good run in 50s and 60s but haven't really made the most of the advantage either.

hardly thing the Fremantle survey pool is deep enough, given three were played before cars were even invented. :)

The surface at Bassendean is absolutely deplorable - its a goat track. Leederville would of been OK I guess, but it came down to who supported the event. the other thing is getting people from claremont and freo to travel all the way out to Basso when they could of just come to freo would of made sfa sense.

I see the SANFL GF only pulled 17K

For all the hype, 7k more than the WAFL in a 50K stadium is pretty piss poor.

Ark

Interesting looking at old WAFL GF Venues, I always thought Leederville hosted a few, but there are none listed, Perth Oval hosted quite a few and that's undertandable as it was a good ground, The WACA (Perth's home ground) and Fremantle being the others, so as it turns out of those left the WACA and Fremantle are those with the longest links to WA footy that still exist.

Apparently so, just a tick over 17 thou for their Grand Final.
If SA not had density requirements in place, they more likely would have doubled that number.
The SANFL Grand Final attendance being just over 39000 for the 2019 season, and about 40½ thousand the season before that.

How do you work that out/ they were allowed up to 25K there for the GF. didnt even get close.

They had 24,200 there the night before for Port and Richmond.

Hopefully Optus will be the home of the WAFL grand final in 2021 and onwards.
Anything less devalues the whole competition.
