There will be no season unless there can be a crowd at WAFL games. Clubs cannot afford the loss of revenue. Given the crowd numbers I can't see it being a massive infection risk by July as long as social distancing protocols are followed. People are far more tightly packed at indoor places like Coles and Bunnings and therefore more at risk you would think.

Agreed Mike, and where do the the AFL get off telling the WAFL yes or no!

Going to be interesting listening to the WA Premiers press release on the weekend to find if any more restrictions will be lifted. If the approach is positive, perhaps the Wafl clubs can gear up for a season start if they choose to?

Will the AFL allow the WAFL to start before them?

It's a sad day when a supposedly independent WAFC would stop our comp because the AFL bullies cant get their circus in order, lets see if the WAFC have the guts to stare the AFL down, tell them to sort themselves out before bossing state leagues around. Get a joint front with the SANFL to say do what you want but our state leagues are starting as soon as we get approval to play and have spectators.

We've had 1 case in the last 9 days (overseas traveller returning) our players are all based in the metro area so travel is not an issue, WAFL games rarely attract more than 2000 punters, most club grounds baring Claremont and Peel have decent outers so punters can keep their distance, club bars can have restricted numbers inside (1 per 4m2) have a takeaway bar so you dont need to be inside for a bevvie, it aint rocket science. Time to get the game up and running, 4 weeks prep would be plenty, start the comp mid June, 1 round of h & a games finished mid/late August, have a final 4 with 3 weeks of finals, all done by mid late September.

I'm getting serious withdrawal symptoms today. Looking out the window it is a perfect day for footy. Would love to be sitting on the sunny banks of the outer at Bassendean today.....sigh

It's not up to the WAFL or AFL.
Try the Federal and State Governments.
Large crowds will not be allowed until stage 3 of recovery.
That's mid to late July.

In my humble opinion it is senseless to try and have a 2020 season without crowds, even limited and socially distanced crowds and that wont happen until at least the end of July.
And, I would not be expecting any TV coverage,so no revenue.
And, being a limited season,it will be a Mickey Mouse competition with an asterisk for the "winners".
I cannot see it any other way except that it would be a positive for all players to be playing the game.
