Why?
Makes no sense.
Some WAFL Clubs will struggle financially.
So responsibe management required.
Some Clubs are capable some are just bloody minded.
My understanding is the AFL is well cashed up.
Where would their responsibility be?
It's not the size of the dog in the fight. It's the size of the fight in the dog.
Winning isn't everything. It's the ONLY THING !!!!!!

The WAFL is a critical piece of the AFL puzzle. Don't be fooled. I think if WAFL matches can't be played in front of crowds then the season will be cancelled because clubs can't afford to pay players and staff. Perhaps WAFL clubs need to prepare for that very real possibility now.

Clubs will need to shut down completely to survive financially and that includes every staff member including CEO's, Coaches and FM will need to be temporarily stood down and the affairs of the clubs run by the club presidents and boards.

They then need to call crisis meetings with their local council about suspending lease payments. There must be no outgoings apart from electricity and phone bills.

Most coaches are part time anyway so most have another job or business. Maybe the CEO takes a significant pay cut?
Get on your bike.

The clubs like all other businesses will cut back to the bone with layoffs of staff to get to a "care and maintenance" survival situation, need the banks to warehouse clubs loans and local Councils to suspend lease payments and other ongoing costs until next season and then clubs can have a chance of surviving.

Subi, EP, SF, Cl and Perth appear to have the resources to hang on, Swans are debt free? and turning a small profit, not sure about EF, WP is the big unknown and now one gives shit about the other 2.

If things get really dire do you think there is a situation where clubs would look to amalgamate rather than collapse? .......... just asking.

We just have to accept it and cop it on the chin. If CH7 and Foxtel don't have a product to broadcast then they withdraw the 400 odd million they paid for the 2020 season and it puts into jeopardy broadcast rights in future seasons.

Not only WAFL, but ammos, country leagues and junior footy are all forced to shut down to contain the virus simple as that.

Amalgamation is a possibility SS. The longer this goes on it looks more and more likely that unfortunately we will not get any WAFL this year and that the WAFL in whatever shape or form it takes in 2021 will look very different to what we have come to know.

You would think that the talk of an AFL Reserves competition is dead a buried for a while. Does the WAFL still stick with 10 teams or does it go to 8 teams where you play each other three times for a 21 game home and away season.

Sounds like WAFL clubs are putting off staff.

Only club that will survive this is Subi

Yes...you're dead right Baz...a lot to play out in that period of time. On the other hand, it could save me a fortune. B)

And I cannot see how anyone cannot accept that the AFL are a bunch of hypocrites who look after themselves.

How many more examples do you need?

The WAFL gets about what 3 mill from the AFL clubs a year. That does not give the AFL ie the peak body the right to make decisions about the WAFL in the way it did for the reasons it did and then turnaround and ignore them for themselves.

This idea you have of money trickling down from the afl to grassroots football is their BS which you buy. It goes about everywhere but downstream.

Enjoy the game tonight chumps.

Have you ever considered just how unviable and financially damaging it might be to play games with no attendance, no bar trade, et al
