I think it’s horse shit, a total over reaction if they’re contemplating locking out WAFL crowds or delaying the season. I can see where there could be bigger than usual crowds in the beginning while AFL crowds are locked out, particularly at Eagles and Peel games but I’ve got an idea.

Make it members only entry. No membership no entry and that will have a positive effect for WAFL clubs. AFL fans who’ve never seen or rarely go to a WAFL game I doubt would fork out for a WAFL membership.

Agreed - a lock out at this stage, with the number of Covid-19 cases we have here in the West, would be a complete overreaction. I don't know about forcing memberships but it would certainly present an opportunity to increase club memberships.

How would that work?

All WAFL Clubs have 500+ members already with an average crowd 3 times larger than the 500 people limit on gatherings.

Update from WAFL website

Based on this advice received by the national working group today, WAFL Futures fixtures and Colts and League practice matches will be postponed tomorrow Saturday, March 14th at New Choice Homes Park (East Fremantle), Steel Blue Oval (Bassendean) and Fremantle Community Bank Oval (South Fremantle).

Based on the current advice from the Government in relation to group gatherings, community football matches with limited crowds (500 or less) can proceed until further notice. It is recommended that match attendance is limited to players, families, and key match officials.

Doesn’t mean all members go and some are country memberships. The point is it will limit the numbers but still give access to those who are diehards. The risk would be close to zero of someone contracting corona virus with 1000 or less at a WAFL ground.

By diehards, you mean long term WAFL supporters? Most diehards would be in an age demographic that makes them the most susceptible to the virus being fatal?

Good plan!

Im sure those most at risk elderly members would probably put their lives ahead of attending the WAFL TT!

it all horse shit -- you go at your risk; I agree one should discourage/prevent the elderly from going. One of the problems in Italy has been that the elderly are frail due to a decade of economic austerity.

But at this stage there are very few known cases of COVID 19 in Perth - and i could be wrong, but those known cases are thought to have been contracted/caught when travelling overseas. It may be more prudent to cancel non essential travel to Europe for example (described by the WHO as the centre of the pandemic outside of China) and try and get on with things here as normal as possible in the meantime - which would include allowing a few thousand spectators to go along to a WAFL match.

You would have to add the USA/North America to that banned travel list for the immediate future as well Ti Em.
