how do the doctors propose to get people to go back to sport once they have decided its safe?
Going to sport is a habit, if people get out of the habit, they will not go back

Make it members only entry. No membership no entry and that will have a positive effect for WAFL clubs. AFL fans who’ve never seen or rarely go to a WAFL game I doubt would fork out for a WAFL membership.

Apparently the ban on mass gatherings comes into effect on Monday because old scott changed his mind again and has attended the big rugby match today.
However 499 spectators can still attend Wafl matches with no problems because it is under the restriction. And some Wafl match attendances are not far above that figure anyway going by some numbers from last season.
The problem is - who is going to be counting as people enter the ground?

While I agree that this is an overreaction, I can see where they are coming from. People say that there isn’t enough of a crowd to worry about, you only need one carrier that decides he wants to go to the bar for a beer and Shazam.
It pains me to say that being one of the “suceptables” , I would not go to a game at this point. That’s going to shit me, because how will I keep up with the EF games? No tv coverage and very little radio.

What some people need to realise you are all only talking about spectators, the players and officials are all included in any numbers. Iknow its crazy but if one player gets it 2 whole clubs go into isolation and your season willbe done.

Wouldn't it be simpler to close done all Australian major railway stations ( usually 500 there in peak) & let people drive to near sport & walk the balance.. Healthy supporters could walk a Km..

yes jb but players only spend around 20 hours a week at a footy club...the rest of the time they're out amongst it like everyone else so shutting down spectators at WAFL games does seem a bit of overkill to me. Why don't clubs have one entrance open at WAFL league games and the gate staff count off 400 home team members into the ground to complement the other 100 players, coaches and support staff....it's under the 500 limit but at least some supporters will get to see games.

All WAFL Clubs have 500+ members already with an average crowd 3 times larger than the 500 people limit on gatherings.

Doesn’t mean all members go and some are country memberships. The point is it will limit the numbers but still give access to those who are diehards. The risk would be close to zero of someone contracting corona virus with 1000 or less at a WAFL ground.

By diehards, you mean long term WAFL supporters? Most diehards would be in an age demographic that makes them the most susceptible to the virus being fatal?

Good plan!

But at this stage there are very few known cases of COVID 19 in Perth - and i could be wrong, but those known cases are thought to have been contracted/caught when travelling overseas. It may be more prudent to cancel non essential travel to Europe for example (described by the WHO as the centre of the pandemic outside of China) and try and get on with things here as normal as possible in the meantime - which would include allowing a few thousand spectators to go along to a WAFL match.

You hear new bits and pieces about the Corona every day.I heard today it's more aggressive in colder climates. Northern Hemisphere ATM.

Spot on JB, we saw what happened when a couple of NBA players got it, they closed it down for at least 30 days then will review it, but by then you can guarantee more will have got it, same for the Grand Prix, Mclaren shut themselves down when a crew member got it, so the whole show had to shut down, cant see it restarting this season. Totally shocked that the Japanese Govt a short time ago announced the Olympics will definitely go ahead, mind boggling decision in the current climate which still hasn't reached it's peak in the northern hemisphere.

SS & JB you better tell that muppet Gil and his Vic League that as they are looking at topping up their comp with 15 players per club from our state leagues to cover for any afl player that may have contracted coronavirus!

At the moment the 500 limit is a recommendation, if the WAFL season does go ahead it could be a short one anyway as it's inevitable that a case will surface within one of the clubs which means quarantine for all personal in contact with that case and therefore out of the comp during quarantine which means the whole show will shutdown, if that case plays another team within the contamination period, that's 2 clubs isolated and on it goes. It's a scenario that's likely to become a reality.
