Got me buggered too unk. They were obviously just giving him some support as all footy fans do, but I wonder how many would have cheered had they known the extent of the injuries?
Still unk, never let a chance go by !!!

I think you need to look at character when assessing intention - and Gaff is clearly not a "king hit" sort of guy.

I reckon he deserves 5 weeks for a stupid and reckless action.

Johnson will also cop a couple for his head high retaliatory bump on Gaff. His and Ballantyne's actions will explain the reaction of the Eagles crowd, in supporting their player.

I note that The Pest seemed to get extra instructions from Lyon at the end of the 3rd quarter break (and acted on them), as both he and Johnson are extremely unlikely to be playing on next season.

Does it require a complaint from the victim or can the coppers lay charges without any input from Brayshaw?

Technically, no you don't need a complainant, The Police could lay a charge if they had enough evidence, although taking a matter to court with a reluctant/non cooperative victim would be rare.

To relate my experience in a similar matter, when I was in a country region, one late Saturday night we received a phone call from a Local League official, he asked us to come around his house, he told us somehting had happened that we should know about, a player had been punched behind the play and was now in hospital with a broken jaw, we attended his house and he had some video footage , the footage didn't capture the assault , what it did capture was were the ball and play was at the time the incident occurred, we gathered as much information as we could from the league official , and took the report, even though no complaint had been received from the victim. the following week more statements were taken together with the local CIB, and the player was charged some time later.

On this occasion the offence has already been well publicised and the police could initiate an investigation on their own.

Basically the way the law works in these cases ,ie in body contact sports there are muliple technical assaults every minute ( a basic tackle is a technical assault) however players consent to these assault by participating in the game so no offence occurs, however the consent only extends to contact played within the rules of the game. An assault the occurs outside of play and the rules of the game is not consented too.

Not so much the chance go by 58, just like when i try to explain that i think WC fans are terrible ( not all of course but many many). I only used this unfortuntate situation to back my thoughts so to speak.

He’ll get his dues and pay them like any other player has done.

As every other club has done before them and will forever til the end of time supporters will always get around their players and look at the good in them.

Definitely a dog act & deserves 7 - 10 weeks. Apologies are shit.
However charging him with assault only elevates him to Leigh Matthew's standards. He could become the player of the 21st century & I dont want that.

Mind you always thought there was something sus about gaff this year being that he's a free agent.

One of the most ridiculous statements that I have seen on social media.

Just to put the Gaff incident in perspective in terms of impact.

When Staker was hit by Hall , he received a cut lip and was back in training next day.

Brayshaw, 4 knocked out teeth, broken jaw, taken to hospital for immediate surgery, still in there. likely to miss rest of season.

Totally out of character but doesn’t lessen the seriousness. Should get 5weeks.
IMO cannot be compared to the Hall/Staker incident. Hall had form. Gaff impecible record before this.
The Grey/Johnson double shirtfront square up should be looked at. There was a forearm/elbow to the head and Gaff was dazed and no free kick.
