People now pay money to hear Barry Hall talk about the hit on Staker. Says a lot about how much we care after time has passed on these sorts of incidents.

Hell, the swing is in how many videos these days and laughed about???

Footy is a physical game and shit happens on the field but this was straight out assault and we've seen in recent times in ammos and other comps blokes being king hit off the ball and charges laid. I don't think it will happen here as it will be a bad look for the AFL in a time where participation rates in juniors is falling due to parents being concerned about the physical side amongst other things, but if I were Andy Brayshaw and his family, I'd be having a long hard think about pressing charges.

Crying was all about trying to save his season, I'd add 2 weeks for the bawling act. He was't bawling about what he had done, he was bawling about blowing his season.

and his Brownlow chances. If he had done that on the street he would be facing assault charges.

Apparently Tom Percy QC is saying the police should investigate

LOL... if that’s the case he will get a slap on the wrist and 100 hrs community service... what a stupid thing to say fair dinkum

Tell me what is the difference between AFL players and amateur players that have laid criminal charges against an opposition player who has king hit them off the ball? Not saying I want to see it happen but sooner or later it is going to happen and set a precedent. I wonder if AFL players sign a waiver when they enter the AFL system preventing them from laying criminal charges against an opponent? I think at the very least Gaff should be made to pay his medical bills now and into the future.

It's not out of the question , when I was cop we charged a player for breaking the jaw of an opposition player off the ball. GBH and ended up in District Court.

And what did the court punish him with?? Farkall I bet

I doubt it will happen either BC, but its not impossible, one things for sure the Afl will be pulling every string to make sure it doesnt , its a P R disaster, i clearly recall Brent Stakers father doing the rounds on media interviews calling for Hall to be charged and thrown out the game for life,

mate ...I know you're an ex-copper and from memory from a previous post some time ago I think you have a law degree as well, so what's the go where an offence has been committed like today and shown on TV and is in the public domain? Does it require a complaint from the victim or can the coppers lay charges without any input from Brayshaw?

Im not an eagles supporter, however in my opinion Gaff went the round arm swing at the chest, Brayshaw ducked down a little and he copped it in the mouth. Really bad luck for both of them. I dont beleive Gaff meant that for a second and a lot of people need to take a chill pill. Its a game of inches sometimes. Talking police charges and such is garbage, hell cop his suspension apologise and move on.

I can respect other people's opinions but that is complete bullshit. Brayshaw's hands were down and he had every right not to expect to be whacked with a clenched fist to the jaw. Young Brayshaw being a first year player would be on a low base plus match payments. If I was him I would be seeking Gaff to cover all his medical bills, loss of match payments and compensation for pain and suffering because this was not a football incident. It was a blatant unprovoked assault on a football field and no player at any level should accept that as just being part of the game.

Brayshaw could well suffer long term from his injuries.

They do it because people fuck up but supporters always look at the good side of that person rather than the bad. The fact the dockers then targeted him with late, high hits that barely got a call from the umpire only made them support him more.

He’ll get his dues and pay them like any other player has done.

As every other club has done before them and will forever til the end of time supporters will always get around their players and look at the good in them.

Good points Viper. I think people are forgetting how they would view the situation if it was a player from their club. I’m not supporting Gaff’s brain fade for a moment, but it was an action of the moment and he will pay a hefty price. Not just in the way of suspension, but there will be an emotional cost as well. He probably won’t play for the Eagles again. He’ll do his suspension, then probably return to Melbourne.

Ridiculous comment by Percy.
Maybe not the right time to say it but even the most one eyed of Fremantle supporters would know deep down that Gaff is one of the fairest players to have ever played the game and doesn't have a nasty bone in his body, it was an extremely careless action and he'll cop a lengthy holiday but why would anyone think the police should be involved.
Incomparable to Barry Hall, that was a well aimed KING hit that woulda knocked out Mike Tyson.
