Mick Rae all the way (Perth)
TI (SF)
Les Fong (WP)
Mossy (Clare)
Ironmonger (EP)
Beasley (SD)
Dwayne Lamb (Subi)
Buhagiar (EF)
Victorians still laugh at West Aussies because of the way we bailed out the vfl and then allowed it to be called it the AFL!

Good to see Stinger Rea is starting to get a few likes from the Demon faithful as he was certainly a popular player at Lathlain Park in the 80s.

No room for Billy Walker on your microscopic list 42?

I thought that it was about your favourite players not necessarily the best. Hence, Craig Callaghan. I could have thrown Kim Hetherington into the mix as well.

ArkRoyal wrote: just on my selection of Stephan Sells, he was a brilliant goal sneak. I remember a game at Claremont -- where we had not won a game since the beginning of time, similar to most away grounds --- where, as Frank Sparrow would have said: 'he back spun beautifully out of a pack of players snapping a big six pointer', and Subi went on to win. The great thing was that, not only was it captured by channel 7, but it was part of a advert for long time, and I had the pleasure of watching it for a good couple of years. Can anybody remember it?

Also saw an interview with him on the Subi web site and his second last kick of the 1985 grand final, has apparentlly stayed with him. He said he managed to get around Colin Waterson and David Rakin was between him and the goal. In the small part of a split second, he tossed up whether to dummy Rankin or have a shot at goal, and after that he just re-called spraying the shot for a point.

Yep remember that goal and ad AR, Sells was certainly an old time goalsneak and every club had one or 3 in that era Donny Holmes & Richo being ours but you also had Vigona & Hardie at SF, Malaxos & Farmer at CL, Simms, Buzz, Ryder at PE, Judge & Cassidy at EF, Bewick & Alderton at WP, Kickett & McGuire at EP plus the mercurial Bucky at SU as well. Some of those goals Bucky kicked in those unforgettable State of Origin games in the 80s I for one will never forget.

AR wasn't Brian Taylor a bit of a rover/goalsneak early in his career at Subi before doing his knee and when he came back from that Bunts turned him into an attacking back pocket player. I was surprised he was left off the inaugural Eagles squad of players a very good footballer.

Hethro was a very reliable player 42 he loved to go 3rd man up at boundary throw ins too which was unique back then but a succesful set play for us in 1990.

BH: yep -- under Armstrong I am pretty sure he led the bloody goal kicking at the club in 1982. Typical rover, as you say, very sharp around the goals. Very true, BH, in common with Brown, Bunton put him in the back line, where he was fine when not playing up the ground. Brian Taylor is an interesting one in terms of wider recognition, because, as you say, the Eagles ignorred him but picked o'loughlin, and, yet, he won great recognition by winning the Simpson Medal in 1985.

Dwayne Lamb was a strange one in a way. He played one league game in 1980 and then Armstrong made him play reserves for a year, plus two years exclusivelly in the back pocket. Only. Bunton, again, put him in the mid field, and same again, he never looked back both for Subi and the Eagles.
