AR I always thought Clint Brown was an underrated player for Subi. Started out as a full forward who could kick a bag of goals on his day but then Bunts turned him into a very dependable full back who was rarely beaten. Good player.

If you get a chance, have a look at clint browns game against Dermott Brereton in the 1986 Clash of the premiers. Terrific effort

Singha I remember that game well as I was at that match as we played a legends game vs our old sparring partners Claremont in the game before hand it was all part of the Americas Cup celebrations at the time. Gee those 80s were a great era to be in Perth.

Grassy: some good analysis there indeed. All true about the PFC as well -- 4 goals up at three quarter time against the blue and whites and eventually lost by 21 points. Still the club avoided the wooden spoon which was a good effort.

But when Neesham and Solin left for East Fremantle and Peake came back home, the balance between Swans and Old Easts changed markedly. And with Subi on the Rise,Swans fell back in the Pecking order.

Of Small Satisfaction to the Black Ducks that season, was knocking off their by then, bitter rivals,West Perth 4 times to Zip!West Perth were in the Ride again that year, with John Wynn getting them playing some fantastic footy. But for some reason,Swans had their measure in 4 toughly contested games.

Perth were still driving us all nuts at Lathlain, with signs of promise, dashed by Sheer Frustration at some horrid collapses, especially at Home against East Fremantle(twice),South Fremantle,Swan Districts and West Perth.

We had Subi on toast, but couldn't kick the bloody pill through the posts often enough, going down by 3 points.

13.26 104 - 15.17 107.

I think our Roving Division must have kicked 3.15 combined that day.It would cause any Coach to screw their face and go "JESUS!"Lord knows what Malcolm Gregory Brown was saying all day. :pinch: :(

Grassy you are on the right track regarding the SD-EF power shift back then but we did have Tony Solin still playing for us in 85, he left in 86 to join his brother Robert who left EP at the end of 84 to join the Sharks.
We swapped Neesham for Taylor with EF after the 84 GF and then with Peake coming back from the Cattery, the recruiting of the likes of Mainwaring, Rowlands, Hoult from the bush plus the Solin brothers over the next 2 years really added strength to the core of the 84 EF side and even Budgie came back for the 86 season.

LS in my OP I did mention I hadn't seen greats like Polly play in the flesh unfortunately as a matter of fact Polly, Toddy, Walker, Marshall, Robertson, Whinnen, Sheedy et al had retired long before I was even born and a few other posters are probably in the same boat.
Have you got any favourites to list at all or are you just having a misplaced unfair potshot at those who have???

I remember George G won the Bull Oscar in the Footy Budget one week for his commentary call of..."Willie Dick heads for goal" :cheer:
I reckon knowing George he may have been waiting for that particular opportunity to pop up whilst behind the mic!
