Yes the standard of footy isn't great at the moment( that's why its free) but this is a long term plan to inspire women to get involved in the game in a playing capacity. The more young women that decide to take up the sport, the more the standard of play will improve. Some people are too willing to slag off at it when this project is only in its infancy.

I get that they are looking to the future, but just look at the Womens Soccer? 20 years on, no-one watches it.
Maybe they should have waited until the skills actually develop before they cram it down everyone's throat. In 10 years when the new girls come through it will be dead.

Chicken and egg argument really. If it doesn't get the exposure then it won't attract the young girls and the standard won't improve. If people don't like it there's always the off switch.

Id compare it more to flogging a dead horse.

Well as predicted it has faded to the background where it belongs once the real season drew near.
I agree with the Gabba curator though, Test Cricket > Womans AFL

They will still draw bigger crowds than most wafl matches. Local football is getting too costly.

The WAFL should be $10 entry including budget.

All students, including Uni, should be free

If only the AFL would subsidize the WAFL matches, then everyone can go for free. See how long that lasts.

LS, they will draw bigger crowds because it is free and a novelty at the moment.
Wait until people have to pay and they see the standard is not that good.
Just how long before they actually stop being a burden on the AFL purse string. How long before the can make money.

But it's PC mate...they will keep pushing it until the cows come home...modern society

From the little I've seen on tv, I may go if it's free but sure as hell wouldn't pay to go.

Just watched part of the AFLW grand final. Standard is similar to a mid placed u16 competition.A decent u16 side would flog these ladies. It is just being Politically correct & an avenue to draw ladies in as members. Bit like horse racing however one horse did win the Bunbury & Melbourne Cups. At least Womens cricket looks OK.
