Yep and that is my objection to the AFL's latest fad. FFS it's not like the AFL invented women's footy. Let's not fool ourselves that it has anything to do with equality and other noble causes for our guernsey wearing sisters. It's all about cynically expanding the market and the advertising and broadcast dollar.

I have no objection to women's footy. Good luck to them and all the best with it.

What I do object to though is country and community leagues missing out on the trickle down as a result.

And I'm about ready to spew with the endless fawning adulation of the AFL media. Over the top.

Maybe drawing a long bow here BUT, we play a hybrid game of gealic football against the Irish, when there is ( to my knowledge) no galeic football league. Despite this 30,000 go to a game that is neither Aussie rules or Gealic, so we still lap it up. Prob doesnt matter that the womens league is a hybrid of Aussie rules as we know it, BUT market it well and the "bread and circuses"bridgade will come in their droves. At least womens soccer etc is the same game for both sexes.

Sam Kerr and Lydie Williams would have to be THE Marquee Players for either side.

Good luck Glory!!!!!!!! ;)

I laughed at Ch 9 news last night, to quote the, the 15,000 seats at Fremantle Oval are expected to be sold out for this big game".

If you can find me 15,000 seats there let me know!

Hows the sour grapes from the clown coaching the womens basketball, mate the reason people don't go and watch that is the because the product is pretty boring as a game, Basketball peaked here in the 80s, and is now back to a niche sport.

Some discussion on the sky sports panel about the problem A league is having now getting oxygen in its summer slot, with the BBL now dominating the media and now the early start of Womens AFL the A league is slipping off the radar big time.

What concerns me is the womens AFL is yet another thing chucked up against WAFL , so much for our early start of AFL free WAFL footy week 1 launch, you watch a heap of people will flock to see the womens dockers and how many will be at week one of WAFL????

Thats the issue when you push something that just isnt there entertainment wise.
They will put fees on entry next season for the womens AFL and it will go down, the same way as the womens A League. Similar number of goals per game too.

Not sure about women's Basketball but the Widcats are selling out homes games at the Arena which holds more than the entertainment centre ever did in the eighties, the Wildcats are just as relavant today as they were in the eighties.

Now we have to hear about women up at the tribunal, rising star nominations..... What's next red carpet night, a Brownlow for the girls?

At best they are G grade ammo level. I've got no problem with chicks playing footy but to be showcased on a national stage you have to earn it on your merits. Sounds a lot like the tokenism in politics, putting women in cabinet for the sake of equality. This is the bullshit political correctness society we live in forced upon us by minorities.
Get on your bike.

Yeah, its the product , The Netball seems to do OK crowd wise.

On a side note, I see the Perth Glory pulled nearly 14,000 on the weekend , record home attendance for the year.

Shameful to admit that the soccer would have been the best thing on to watch over the weekend.
