Still yet to meet someone who would pay to see this rubbish. Are they all from the east?

Good luck Glory!!!!!!!! ;)

I laughed at Ch 9 news last night, to quote the, the 15,000 seats at Fremantle Oval are expected to be sold out for this big game".

If you can find me 15,000 seats there let me know!

Had to laugh a similar report reckons Fremantle Oval only holds 10,000 ...it must have been another Fremantle Oval I attended with a crowd of around 20,000 then!

Record crowd for Freo Oval 23,109 vs East Freo 4th June 1979.

Capacity has been reduced quite a bit since then.

1. Parry Street Extension which demolished the original historic Henderson St end entrance gates, and rebuilt the new (existing) ones pushing in to the grounds standing room area. South Terrace gates were also removed.
2. Construction of the Dockers Building, destroyed the Doig Pavilion, removed the entire Hospital End Hill standing area and public bar area.
3. Removal of all public benches surrounding oval at fence level , these consisted of three rows of wooden benches and went around entire western side and also Hospital end.

While I do and will continue to support womens sport in all it's forms, I thought I should watch an AFLW match before making a comment, so I sat through the Freo v Brisbane game which was ... well ... underwhelming.

Poor skills, lack of an identifiable game plan, the ability to maintain a structure, no I'm not talking about the mens Dockers although the comments do apply after last years embarrassing display. I would rate it at around local suburban u/14's as a spectacle, one thing though you cant deny the G & T and commitment to the contest by most of the girls.

This from a team from a football state on their home ground against a team from a non football state who were rated as an also ran this season. Must say that the big Lions girls the blonde #7 and the big ruck (looked like she has islander heritage) were several classes above most of the others on the paddock.

Ch 7 news (barra & basil)had a wankfest over the game and the crowd but as many have said, lets see what the numbers are like when you have to pay $20+ to get in. Freo oval with 10k is only half full. Anyway lets focus on the real stuff, roll on the scratchies and the 1st round of WAFL!!!

I guess it just confirms my previous views on some footy supporters who would even show up to watch that rubbish.... take away the fee entry and schedule a women's game during the normal AFL season like the WAFL has to compete against and you'd be lucky to get 10 people at the sheilas let alone 10,000.

This is my first post so I hope it loads up OK.
I think that there is no point debating what might happen if the AFL fixture the AFLW matches at a different time, because they will not. This has been clever marketing by the AFL - fills a hole in the football and general sporting calendar.
Like it or not, lots of people have turned up to the games and watched it for a while on the TV. So instead of griping about it or hoping it goes away (much like some did when 20/20 started) we should encourage the WAFC to work out why people have been going and then try to do that with the WAFL.
How about playing a WAFL pre-season match after the Fremantle AFLW matches to get some fans back to the WAFL?

To me this is bad news for WAFL, it shows that the public are keener to support something like this than WAFL , and its YET another entry into a crowded sports market that the WAFL has to compete with.

Make entry free? Your kidding yourself if you think that is sustainable and the "large", nonpaying crowd equals success. Hardly a successful business model.
Honeymoon period will be over shortly, especially when the JLT series starts next week.
