Whilst the quality of the games might not be great when compared to AFL, WAFL or even community level football the AFL has done well with its timing of the season giving it a much greater profile. Whether or not any of us want to attend last weeks first round showed that there is plenty of people who do.

The WAFL should take note of some of the initiatives that appear to have worked for the AFLW.
1. Don't compete against a better product, so don't fixture WAFL games against WC and Freo home games
2. Reduce/remove WAFL entry fee. Only 300-500 people pay to get into a WAFL game so make it free and look to get bigger crowds
3. Bigger crowds create a better atmosphere, even if the footy quality is low, a better atmosphere will get people coming back.
4. Let the clubs make their money through bar, food and merchandise sales
5. Make the players more accessible to supporters
6. Promote the hell out of your product. Doesn't matter how good or bad it is, if enough people know about it then enough people will 'buy' it!

Some discussion on the sky sports panel about the problem A league is having now getting oxygen in its summer slot, with the BBL now dominating the media and now the early start of Womens AFL the A league is slipping off the radar big time.

What concerns me is the womens AFL is yet another thing chucked up against WAFL , so much for our early start of AFL free WAFL footy week 1 launch, you watch a heap of people will flock to see the womens dockers and how many will be at week one of WAFL????

Thats the issue when you push something that just isnt there entertainment wise.
They will put fees on entry next season for the womens AFL and it will go down, the same way as the womens A League. Similar number of goals per game too.

Yeah, its the product , The Netball seems to do OK crowd wise.

On a side note, I see the Perth Glory pulled nearly 14,000 on the weekend , record home attendance for the year.

Shameful to admit that the soccer would have been the best thing on to watch over the weekend.

Quite amazed TBH as glory has slipped off the local radar last couple of years, not much success.

Sam Kerr and Lydie Williams would have to be THE Marquee Players for either side.

Good luck Glory!!!!!!!! ;)

I laughed at Ch 9 news last night, to quote the, the 15,000 seats at Fremantle Oval are expected to be sold out for this big game".

If you can find me 15,000 seats there let me know!

Had to laugh a similar report reckons Fremantle Oval only holds 10,000 ...it must have been another Fremantle Oval I attended with a crowd of around 20,000 then!

Play the old "scarcity"marketing tool that will encourage people to go, so contrived and pathtic, still people will get sucked in.
Hey heres an idea, charge people $15:00 to get in and see how thin the crowd is then!!.... problem soleved

Yeah no doubt there is some truth to that Unk but how hard would it have been for the green as grass reporter to do some research and check some crowd figures from Fremantle Oval from the past on waflfootyfacts.net or the WAFL site to see for themselves and then realise they have been told a complete and utter furphy before putting that "fact" to air and then sounding like a dill to anyone born before 1986!

yep, that would be it.

actually apart from the much vaunted 24 k at one game the other two were not that great I think about 9k at one, all free entry and sfa else on as well bar A league and Bouncyball.

How will it go when its 15 bucks to get in and up against the real AFL each weekend?

still will be interested to see how many they get at freo oval this weekend, SF have put a message out to members saying to get there early as its first in first seated basis, at the least its good for our club to make a big quid at the BAR.

Some really great suggestions there Tiger.
Making the Football affordable for families again and promoting the fun on the grass hills, like when we were all young.
So many great Saturday afternoons spent watching WAFL footy when I was a kid.
