I think I've seen just about everything in the name of PC now. Why can't our muslim brothers and sisters go and watch a game of footy, a concert or whatever without needing a prayer room? I understand they pray 5 times a day and Basher Houli organised one at Domain which at the time I thought was nonsense but surely the 1 or 2% Muslim population of this country can re-organise their busy religious lives so a room for prayer at a sporting venue is not needed. next we'll see a buddhist temple, a church...what about a strip club for sex addicts or a boxing ring for your average thuggish anglo-saxon Swand Districts supporting youth?

our muslims at work tell me they pray on the footpath if they want and have no need of a salat room. also that they are not that indoctrinated that they need to pray 5 times a day.

the only thing i will give is that it may be an osh issue as to someone tripping over a praying person.

jeez im getting bloody sick of those people who toady to minorities, i still remember when the melville pool was closed to everyone so muslim women could have a swim.

Big deal...move on nothing like drumming up more anti muslim sentiment.

Perhaps before the government drops more bombs on Syria they can address some of the local issues ....the never ending drug scurge, law and order, binge drinking, homelessness, sort out our own backyard before starting shit else where in the world...we have enough issues here to deal with.

Took the words out of my mouth, total non issue. Just another opportunity for a bit more Muslim bashing. I think people should be more concerned about why Crown appears not to be contributing a brass razoo to the stadium when it is they that are standing to benefit the most from it.

Way of life gents, My advice if you don't like the idea of prayer rooms, then stay away from them at the new stadium

and it's drumming up anti-muslim sentiment how? oh that's right...because pandering to a tiny vocal minority is an absolute joke. does anyone seriously think having a prayer room at a footy stadium is going to stop disaffected muslim youth from becoming marginalised? and can anyone tell me what being "marginalised" actually means? is it where you don't appreciate what you've got and think the grass is greener on the other side or are bored and looking for something to do which is going to put you up in the spotlight? or maybe it's that you are so lacking in intestinal fortitude, intelligence, common sense or all of the above that you can be influenced by the loonies out there to do something so grotesque that the people doing the influencing wouldn't do it themselves? I'm in absolute agreement that Crown should be kicking in big time but that's not what this thread is about.

and what is the justification for having them ph? if Muslims want to assimilate into the broader Australian community having something like this only serves to alienate them.

BC, I would have thought you would have been a bit more open minded that that last comment.

In my opinion the reason why the prayer room is there is because as part of living in a multicultural society we have a right to try to cover for all peoples beliefs. So for the government or the developers to put a prayer room in the stadium for those that want to pray is a fair option. you might just get some diehard footy fans in there praying that they get a win.......

lets face facts for all those non Muslim people out there we have a bar that we all attend at half time.......so why cater for one group of people and not others.
