in breaking news I have some information for some people on here - there are prayer rooms at many buildings in Perth - the airport, uni's, shopping centres, some Govt buildings..

if you are trying to get involved in a debate on the prayer room in the new stadium, I think you are a few years behind when the debate should have started but that is no surprise going by what is being written on here..

the airport and uni's I'd think reasonable given the % of muslims attending those facilities at any one time is probably above the national population average...shopping centres maybe but you'd need to name them to convince me...government buildings I wouldn't think so.

Harbour Town has one and you will find that govt buildings have them, hospitals for example..

are you able to give a list of venues that shouldn't have a prayer room so the govt can be aware of where they should and shouldn't be located. ?

Some info for your debate

Western Australia’s citizens speak as many as 270 languages (including Aboriginal
languages) and identify with more than 100 religious faiths.

Almost one-third (31 per cent)of Western Australians were born overseas and, in addition to English, 15 per cent of the population speaks a language other than English at home.

More than 40,000 Muslims live in Western Australia,

Now I work for a very large federal govt. organisation, and I can confirm we have prayer rooms in our office for the few staff that are Muslims.......I think 1 person works here that is Muslim faith.

As for supermarkets, I do know that Watertown (formally harbour town) has prayer rooms. I know they are in some Westfield shops over east but I'm not sure about in Western Australia

as for uni's this is off the UWA website, if they have a prayer room then im sure that other uni's do also.

UWA has a Muslim prayer room and an active Muslim Students' Association. A prayer room for Muslim brothers is located at the Eastern end (river end) of the Winthrop Hall building and for sisters in Hackett Hall. The Muslim Students' Association has information about praying times each day.

So they are out there BC, all this information was able to be sourced from the internet with a couple of minutes of searching.......

This isn't a new initiative because its a football stadium. this is society trying to keep up.

The fact that few people have attended the prayer rooms at Domain should be used as a test case that these rooms are not needed. Despite that my main argument is regarding the fact that it goes against Australian values of secularism.

Just because it is not new doesn't mean we cannot discuss it. In fact it is very healthy to discuss issues after a few years of implementation as we can see how it is going in practice rather than theory.

I think they are playing more than AFL at the new venue, I heard some breaking news that they are even thinking about having soccer and cricket games at the new stadium..

I better take my AFL glasses off as I am unable to see anything but a very attractive photo of Jeff Kennett, the world is getting weird.

yes...very easy...no government building should have a prayer room, a chapel or anything else with the exception of hospitals which imo could have an interfaith facility accommodating all religions given people die in hospitals. if anyone feels the need to pray in other circumstances then go to any one of the publicly available mosques, churches, temples or whatever.

thanks for the lesson in demographics ph. if you have a prayer room for 1 person then heaven (multidemoninational heaven that is) help the poor suffering tax payer. How often does this person use it? and as for your last comment...it's not society trying to keep up...it's society gone mad with PC...prayer rooms at sporting facilities ffs...where will it all end?
