some good posts on here. Well done to Taylor and NZ. I wonder what old RE Foster is thinking about losing his record? It will be interesting to see if the longest record of all time, Bannerman's 165 out of a team total of not much at all (245, I think) -- will ever be beaten. It is amazing that Jackson got within one run and than got out.

I remember wagging school and going down to the WACA with a dozen other "wagee's" from my year to watch Wayne Phillips go awfully close in his test debut v Pakistan to beating Bannermans record Ark.

Bit of a conundrum here BH re: Johnson.....would love to see him roll over the kiwi's today and go out on a high note if indeed he does retire.....shame for the fella to go out on a 1/150 + at an economy rate of over 5....but realistically he has done little since that Ashes whitewash....but hey his bowling in that series will be what folk remember the most about the guy......one of the most hot/coldest bowlers to of ever played test cricket.....

I was at Ascot water playground with my year 5 class listening to the 159 made by Wayne Phillips that day on my trannie, I still listen to the footy and cricket now on that same transistor radio

Not surprising as he looks cooked, great career and to play 73 tests as a fast bowler is a massive effort as I believe it is the toughest physical pursuit on the human body than any other sport. I played cricket at 3rd highest level and some reasonable footy but opening the bowling and churning out 20 odd overs in a day is tougher on the body by miles imo..Well done Mitch!

Geez Swandog I was 16 and had to forge my dads signature with a sick note when I went to school on the Mon....was that the same test DK wanted to kill Miandad?......remember Big Carl took a few in that test.....Hogg, DK, Carl and the Dentist were our bowlers that test.....first and last time I saw Abdul Qadir bowl his leggies live too!

Swandog I remember Phillips. He was a bit unlucky because they tried to make him into a keeper batsman-- the funny thing was that Wessels nearly broke the record two years before with 162.

The Miandad incident was a few years before, but yep big Carl, Hoggy, Lawson and DK were our quicks. I think Mohsin Khan made a ton that test too? great players and characters on both sides!
