In the case of the Bali 9 drug smugglers they should be shown some mercy because

  1. They have already served 10 years in a stinking hole of a Jail in Bali which makes Aussie jails look like holiday camps.
  2. They have been instrumental in rehabilitating more Indonesian prisoners than any of the people who are paid to do this. This is backed up by many of the Prison guards in Bali.
  3. They are willing to serve the rest of their lives continuing this work in the prisons
  4. The drugs they were smuggling were heading for Australia not Indonesia
  5. There is not a jot of evidence in any research anywhere that capital punishment solves any crime problem or acts as a deterrent.

Make no mistake this is political act by a President desperate to shore up his position. There were very few executions in Indonesia while the previous president was in power. The execution method of the firing squad at midnight is cruel and barbaric and ensures maximum pain for the families of the condemned men.

Firing squad is probably the most humane and quickest ways to do it, we used to hang people here by their neck snapping their spinal column , and thats pretty savage! The yanks have the electric chair, shocking!

Lets worry about all the bad shit and idiots running around in this country before we start governing other countries and how they treat criminals. To a lot of the countries mentioned in here we are week in the way we treat our criminals.

Interestingly I read the other day that one of the original trial judges has said that the two guys on death sentence were offered life in jail for paying a bribe (another important of the prison system in the third world) and the judge was knocked back.

As the saying goes, if you do the crime, expect to do the time somewhere

Save a tree and eat a beaver

Well said Hangover, while crime runs riot here, murders, meth dealers, drunks on the streets bashing people to death, with bugger all conserquence, we are the last people to start lecturing a place like Singapore, I tell you what though ...we could learn a hell of lot from a country like Singapore on law and order.

As you say Hangover, go to Singapore or Japan and ask them about law and order here and they would have a good laugh.

  • It might not be a deterrent but it guarantees the offender won't do it again.

    Spot on Unka
Blame the AFP .. COME ON

2 SHIT bags caught going into Indonesia and got max penalty.. THEIR CHOICE

It cost the taxpayer around $100 a day plus for every prisoner in Australian jails.
Do the maths... it is a joke. This is why the courts are lenient and many dont end up there as they know our jails are over crowded and governments are sick of paying out millions on new jails.. etc etc.
They get internet TV and 3 meals a day.. It is BULLSHIT. They should be out doing a lot for the community.. But if they are forced to work they protest and GO ON STRIKE!!

Now as for these 2 in Indonesia... people say it is barbaric to shoot them ... ok keep some of their Herion and OD them... Nice and peaceful and they will get there own medicine.

Media pushing the family being stressing out etc etc... look at Growlers post and play the one with the interview with Chan... HE HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH HIS FAMILY.

Its in the first video clip down... watch it

Interesting to note that there is a hundred odd Indonesian citizens on death row in other countries and the Indonesian authorities fight tooth and nail to get them off, bit ironic isn't it.

Bloody media is turning these two knobs into national heros, now they are delaying it for another month, giving us 4 more weeks of this crap, if they do finally get the bullet dont be surprised if some dickhead suggests we should fly our flags at half mast.

this country is losing the plot.

Ohh how true Bazza. Cant wait for the 60 mins special now on people who knew these wonderful heroes ( will they will be classified as that in a couple of weeks) , and thier hearbreaking stories. If a copper/nurse/paramedic had been shot by loonies im sure they would not have all the FAKE grief bestowed upon em.
As for Indonesia and thier rules, thats them. Dont agree necessarily with em, BUT eveyone knows them.
    Question number one.
If they did not commit this terrible crime, would ANY of this be an issue?
Its that simple. Commit a crime , know the consequences of that country, end of story.
