BC wrote: whilst I'm against the death penalty you've gotta ask the question would these two have turned into model citizens if they weren't caught and now facing the firing squad? I'd suggest the answer is no. they'd probably be doing more drug runs or holed up somewhere enjoying the spoils of their narcotics trafficking. so for mine, all this stuff about rehabilitating and so on is a bit hollow as it does appear a last attempt to dodge a bullet...so to speak.

Spot on BC, they would of merrily carried on, no doubt their families benefitted from previous profits stashed away.

One thing is for sure, they wouldnt paid any tax on their profits.

Another thing that annoys me is the grosse hypocrisy of govs here criticising the death penalty when it suits them.

Virtually every nation in asia has the death penalty, two of them happen to be our biggest trading partners and apparent great friends.. China and Japan.

China execute around 4000 people a year , Japan did about 7 last year.

Yet their leaders are welcomed here lauded and celebrated by one and all..basically nobody gives a toss. And nor should we its their soverign right.

Yet when it comes to Indonesia and if its Australian Cits involved everything changes, their Barbarians, their backwards, etc etc..

And as for deterrent, I reckon it works that way, the publicity this is getting once these guys go, there will be dickheads here who had planned the same thing having serious second thoughts.

You bring out some good points Bazza and spot on.. Especially re other countries that still have the death penalty. It is not Australias place to be the police for these countries or interfere in thier laws.

Gee another point is Sharia Law at the extreme used by Muslim countries where they stone women to death and cut of hands etc etc ... Do we stop trading with them and break off diplomatic relations...
This also applies to the USA who still have the death penalty in many states.

Time to move on Australia and instead of making this issue a National issue and creating mass hysteria getting on with governing our country.

Heard a Jock on 2GB going on about the aid we give Indonesia and what we have given in the past e.g billion to Tsunami etc and possibly cutting it all off.... WHAT A JERK ... So the poor millions of Indonesians or for that fact in other countries who live on nothing will be penalised because of our dismay and as a protest against their laws..
What a load of crap.. And it would of just been a ratings thing for the Radio station. Going with the flow as are our politicians.

I suspect like some of us here and people I speak to Just dont care about this issue and agree with the Death penalty. The silent majority is out there and just want to see this go away.

Couple of call backs on Radio station.. one who saw close friend die of a Herion overdose... Said has not time for drug pushers etc
the Announcers said he didnt agree but entitled to his opinion and many wouldnt agree. He said so they put signs up and they still do it HA HA so much for that.
Luke Grant standing in on 2GB ... WHAT a idiot. Must of got lessons off Sattler :)

Yep excatly mate, so some poor villager wiped out by the Tsunami on the bones of his arse in Java, through no fault of his own has to pay for these two greedy crims..give me a break.

Yes Cardy , instead of worry about this , why dont we get our own laws, right, like how can some muslim imman scumbag that presides over a 12 year girl marrying a 27 yrs old adult male, who he gets pregnant at 12 , walk away with a %500 fine??

disgrace.

because various weak governments here in Oz let them adopt their own laws & practices they perform where they oozed out from

Turn it around & try to live an Oz lifestyle over there & see how quickly you'd be put up against a wall & shot

yes i saw that too growler...one of the sisters crying and asking "why they were doing this to us?"...pretty easy answer there i'm afraid. in saying that, i was just reading on line where a local large scale "methamphetamine" manufacturer and distributor in Surabaya was also sentenced to death around the same time. he appealed for clemency in the same hearing as these two and whereas they were denied, his was granted based on the indonesian constitution guaranteeing the right to life. his sentence was reduced to 12 years at the time which should see him out in the next few years. there was suggestion the judges were paid off and looking at the two different outcomes you'd have to say there's a fair chance that was the case.

Yes I am afraid that actual justice in Indonesia can be at the whim of a $ or the right judge .... and yes that sucks
But hang on - lets look at our own justice system ....
Do the poor actually get the same justice of the rich or the dealer who can afford a QC???

And I an not all that convinced of the rehabilitation supposedly achieved - sorry call me chased or unforgiving but these two and for that matter I'm afraid even what I have seen of the family do not give me the impression of warm and cuddly.

Take a look at the faces on these two when they aren't aware of the shot - the bigger of the two looks like he'd hit you faster than kiss you ...

..... I just have little tolerance for bullies and dealers/traffickers

Would they have repatriated if they were caught - no. Were they dealing in a killer drug - yes. Were they aware of the penalty - you would have to say yes. However, I still think the death penalty is extreme - Indonesian life in prison would be more befitting. And of course there's still the thought - what if it was your child. Any parent would fight the penalty. I know I would.

You reap what you sow
Try that for some biblical justice in words ...
Lets re-read some of their past loving efforts

The OTHER evil plot by the Bali Nine kingpin: Five days before 'God-fearing' Andrew Chan was arrested, two teenage drug mules were caught in Hong Kong with heroin-filled condoms
Bali Nine kingpin Andrew Chan masterminded another overseas heroin deal that went wrong
Rachel Diaz, 17, of Sydney, was arrested with two others in a Hong Kong hotel
Diaz, a trainee hairdresser, and Chris Vo, then 15, were due to swallow 114 heroin-filled condoms when police raided their hotel room
Chan sent threats from Kerobokan jail to Diaz's Hong Kong prison cell, telling her to keep her 'mouth shut'
Chan set up at least 17 young Australians who were arrest on heroin charges
He was part of a 'predatory crime syndicate' which recruited young people as drug mules
Chan and cohort Myuran Sumurakan face death by firing squad after the new Indonesian President rejected any chance of a pardon
