2004 Power, 1st GF 1st flag
2005 Swans, 1st GF since 1996, 1st Flag since 1933
2006 Eagles, since 94
2007 Geelong, 1st GF since 95, 1st flag since 63
2008 Hawks, since 91.

In recent history only Eagles 91 L - 92 W, 05 L 06 W.
Geelong did but different, won 07, 08 L, 09 W. Same generation of players.
They never choked 1st time round.

the swans 2005 example doesnt really make sense as they lost in 96 - first one since 1933, 9 yrs later they won one.

same with the geelong they failed in 92 and 94 - but the eagles had already lost one in 91 and went on to win one, so that supports the old adage,

1970 south won from a wooden spoon, but then lost again in 1975 and 79.

its all over the place.

You're right Bazza, it's all over the place.
I was considering recent history.
I think it is more pertinent where thinking of the lose 1 win 1, that it is considered with the same players.
Swans 96, different team than the 05. So not a lose 1 win 1.
I missed Carlton losing 93 winning 95 & Kangaroos losing 98 then winning 99.

Yeah - but you cant get past the fact that Swans in 96 was a 1st appearance for a very long time - since 1945 actually,.theres some flow from 96 Eaades went on to build the team that Roos took over.

Yep NM won in 96 - lost 98 and came back in 99...

carlton are a club that used to make regular appearances, 70's 80's.

there is no real hard and fast rule..

if your out there your a chance.

the hawks certainly have an edge when it comes to grand final experience and i feel this will certainly be a factor. having lost last years grand final when expectation of victory was huge will be motivating - but having said that it could increase the pressure too. the dockers are stifling with their pressure and harassing so the hawks really need to break free of that - the space of the G should suit them.

Yeah the space of the G and the Hawks elite kicking ability between team mates, for me, is the only thing the brown & gold have going for them.

Last 5 GF's have gone to the team with the biggest Prelim win.
Breust should be dropped, kicked important points against Swans last GF and again last week with the Cats. Small game player.
Freo by less than 24, and that's if the Hawks are lucky.

very interesting stat....I like that

got one spare afl gf ticket to sell for $400...............send me PM

I'm another that doesn't believe in 'lose one before you win one' - haven't seen any proof of it yet. As for the result - Dorks by 16 pts, but could be a lot more if they get their tails up in the last quarter.
2x25= Seinor and Michael = 1xBrian Peake

Yeah and teams thatl lose two or more in a row are common as well

Collingwood 79 80 81
Hawks 84 85
Cats 94 95
Collingwood again 02 03
St Kilda 09 10

Maybe the pain of last year will not be enough.
